The 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee is facing a wave of criticism for making a serious mistake regarding the national flag in the announcement of the 2025 SEA Games women's football match schedule. According to Kompas (Indonesia), the incident occurred when the schedule for the Indonesia women's futsal match against Thailand was posted on the official website of the games. In the illustration, the Indonesian flag was changed to the Lao flag, while the Thai flag was replaced by the Vietnamese flag.

It is worth noting that this is the content posted on the official platform - the channel that is expected to provide the most accurate information to the media and fans. However, according to Kompas, the false information has caused a strong reaction from the public in Indonesia and Thailand. The graphic shows the match scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. on December 4, 2025 at Chonburi Stadium: the Thai team but with the Vietnamese national flag, while the Indonesian team was replaced by the Lao national flag.

Many opinions criticized the carelessness in the censorship process, the content production team allowed basic errors to occur.

Not the first time Indonesia has had a flag incident at the SEA Games

For Indonesia, this is not the first time the national flag has become a hot topic at the SEA Games. At the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia, the Indonesian flag was printed upside down in the official guidebook given to delegates attending the opening ceremony on August 19, 2017.

On page 80, the red and white flag was reversed to white and red, leading to a strong reaction from the then Minister of Youth and Sports , Mr. Imam Nahrawi, who called it “carelessness that damaged the image of the event”.

New mistakes at the 33rd SEA Games continue to raise questions about the quality of preparations, as seemingly simple details such as the national flag can still be confused, affecting the image of the participating country.
