According to the Department of Health , in 2024, the province had 17 cases of child injuries, causing 15 children to die. From the beginning of 2025 to now, the province has recorded 13 cases of child injuries, causing 10 deaths, including 6 drownings, 2 traffic accidents, 1 case of electric shock and 1 other cause. These numbers are not new but are still a persistent warning bell about the seriousness of child injuries over many years, showing that the problem of child injuries has been and is continuing, not being effectively controlled even though many solutions have been implemented by all levels and sectors.

Most recently, in early June 2025, LBL (born in 2018), residing in Na Tha village, Kim Dong commune, Trang Dinh district, was electrocuted while charging his phone at home. His family took him to the emergency room but he did not survive. This is one of four child traffic accidents that resulted in death in Trang Dinh in the first 6 months of 2025 (3 drowning cases, 1 electrocution case).

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuc, Na Tha village, Kim Dong commune, shared: We live in the countryside, many families are busy working in the fields and in the forest, so it is difficult to take care of their children carefully. After the accidents, everyone is worried, now when going to work, we have to tell our children to stay away from electrical equipment at home, and absolutely not go to rivers and streams without an adult accompanying them.

Similarly, from the beginning of 2025 to now, Loc Binh district has also recorded 4 cases of child drowning, causing 4 children to die (2 drowning, 1 traffic accident, 1 other cause). Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy, Vice Chairman of Loc Binh District People's Committee said: To minimize child drowning, especially during the summer, we have been and will continue to direct communes, towns, agencies and organizations to promote propaganda on child drowning prevention skills through loudspeakers, to each family; at the same time, strengthen supervision of children during the summer, open safe swimming classes and check high-risk areas to post warning signs and erect barriers.

Faced with the ongoing situation of child accidents, threatening the safety of children, especially during the summer holidays, the health sector and other sectors and organizations in the province have implemented many synchronous solutions. People's Committees of districts and cities, Centers for Disease Control, Medical Centers of districts and cities have coordinated to strengthen dissemination, propaganda, thoroughly implement the central and provincial directives on child accident prevention and control. The Youth Union, Women's Union, organizations, members of child protection committees at commune, ward and town levels, collaborators... participate in closely managing children during the summer holidays, during rain, storms, floods, and natural disasters to ensure safety and prevent child accidents and drowning; strengthen communication work on child accident prevention and control. Since the beginning of 2025, Lang Son Newspaper and Radio - Television have disseminated over 180 news and articles on child care and protection policies, emphasizing solutions to prevent child accidents. Theeducation sector has organized more than 1,150 dissemination sessions with a total of over 96,000 students participating. The Provincial Fatherland Front Committee has coordinated to disseminate more than 2,300 sessions on health care and child protection. The Provincial Women's Union has promoted the development of "Safety for Women and Children" models, and organized dissemination of child-rearing skills in the community. The Provincial Youth Union has also deployed multi-platform communication, distributing documents to 100% of Youth Union branches, associations, and teams, attracting tens of thousands of Youth Union members, youth, and children to respond...

However, to effectively solve the problem of child drowning, it is necessary to change the mindset from response to proactive prevention. Mr. Phan Lac Hoai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Health, affirmed: In the face of the fact that child drowning cases have occurred continuously in some areas in the past two months, we have coordinated with districts and cities to synchronously implement many solutions to prevent and combat drowning, including reviewing and thoroughly handling high-risk areas such as: ponds, lakes, rivers and streams without fences; launching a movement for the whole population to learn to swim, life skills classes, supporting first aid training and strengthening extensive communication to each family and each residential area to form a sense of proactive protection for children.

Along with the efforts of all levels and functional sectors, to ensure the safety of children during the summer, it is necessary to have the attention and cooperation of families, schools and the whole society. Each family and each community needs to raise awareness of supervision, care and create conditions for children to have a safe and meaningful summer vacation.
