Faced with unusual weather developments, on May 27, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Phu Tho province issued Official Dispatch No. 14/BCH-VPTT to the PCTT&TKCN Steering Committees of districts, cities, towns and Phu Tho Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd., requesting the implementation of urgent measures to proactively respond to heavy rains, risks of flooding, flash floods and landslides.
Specifically, localities need to closely monitor warning bulletins and forecast natural disasters and promptly inform commune-level authorities and people, especially in areas at risk of flooding, landslides, and flash floods. On-site forces need to be organized and ready to support people in overcoming the consequences if any situation occurs.
The Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control requested districts, cities and towns to organize shock forces to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams and low-lying areas; proactively clear the flow at points at risk of blockage; prepare plans to evacuate people to safe places when necessary. At the same time, it is necessary to arrange forces to guard and control traffic at key locations such as underground, overflow, deep flooded areas, fast-flowing water, construction works under construction, and mineral exploitation areas to ensure safety for people and vehicles.
Localities are also required to organize inspections and assess the safety level of dykes, reservoirs, downstream dams and irrigation works; be ready to operate pumping stations and drainage sluices to protect agricultural production, industrial parks, urban areas and concentrated residential areas.
Instruct people to harvest crops and rice early in low-lying areas prone to flooding; reinforce aquaculture ponds to minimize damage caused by floods.
Along with that, local media agencies, radio and television need to increase information and propaganda about extreme weather developments, helping people proactively prevent them.
The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Phu Tho province requests units to seriously implement this dispatch, with a proactive, urgent and responsible spirit, to minimize human and property damage caused by natural disasters.
