President Luong Cuong receives Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone

On the morning of April 17, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on the occasion of the Prime Minister's attendance at the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit in Hanoi , from April 15 to 17.

At the reception, President Luong Cuong welcomed the Lao Prime Minister to attend the 4th P4G Summit in Vietnam; at the same time, he conveyed his greetings for the Lao New Year Bunpimay and his regards and wishes for good health to General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and other senior leaders of the Lao Party and State.

The President also sent condolences to the Lao Party, State and people, as well as Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his family on the passing of comrade Khamtay Siphandone, former Party Chairman and former President of Laos.

Sincerely thanking the President for taking the time to meet him, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his pleasure in coming to Vietnam to attend the P4G Summit, highly appreciated Vietnam's organization and initiatives, and wished the Summit great success.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone conveyed the greetings of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and senior leaders of the Lao Party and State to President Luong Cuong.

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone was moved to express his deepest gratitude to President Luong Cuong, and through the President to the leaders of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam who sent the highest-level delegation led by General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to offer condolences, visit and bid farewell to the Prime Minister's father, former Party Chairman and former President of Laos Khamtay Siphandone, who passed away recently.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and President Luong Cuong recalled the proud memories and career and affirmed that the invaluable contributions that comrade Khamtay Siphandone left to the relationship between the two countries will always be preserved and developed.

Emphasizing that the tradition of good relations between the two countries, built and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong, and later generations of leaders of the two countries, including the late Party Chairman and President Khamtay Siphandone, will live forever, the two leaders expressed their joy at the important results of the bilateral relationship in recent times, especially the consolidation of political trust, tightening security and defense cooperation, resolving obstacles, promoting economic cooperation, and diverse and rich local exchanges.

Also at the reception, President Luong Cuong congratulated the Lao Prime Minister on the positive results that the Lao Government has achieved in all fields, the people's socio-economic life has been constantly improved, the prestige and position of Laos has been increasingly enhanced in the region and internationally; expressed his belief that the brotherly country of Laos will continue to gain many new and greater achievements, successfully implement the goals of the Resolution of the 11th Lao People's Revolutionary Party Congress and the 9th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan, and move towards successfully organizing the 12th National Party Congress.

The President affirmed that the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives the highest priority to developing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone shared Laos' major activities in 2025, including his wish to soon welcome President Luong Cuong to visit Laos and coordinate with Vietnam to organize events honoring the solidarity, closeness, and mutual support for development between Vietnam and Laos.

The two sides also emphasized the importance of actively coordinating and organizing well the major commemorative activities of the two countries in 2025, thereby contributing to raising the understanding of the younger generation, fostering traditions, promoting the spirit of solidarity, close attachment, and making the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos develop more and more brilliantly.
