Buddha's relics will continue to be displayed at five famous Vietnamese pagodas until June 2, after the Indian government extended the period by 10 days from the original plan.
On May 19, the Indian Government agreed to the proposal to extend the display of the relics in Vietnam by 10 days compared to the original schedule, and requested Vietnam to support visa extensions for accompanying Indian officials and monks, and to arrange ceremonies and security. According to the document sent by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and Religion on May 20, after the Indian Government agreed to the extension, the Buddha's relics will be brought to 5 provinces and cities in Vietnam for people to worship.
Bai Dinh Pagoda, Ninh Binh
Time of worship: May 21-23
The Buddha's relics enshrined at Bai Dinh Pagoda is the fifth stop on the journey in Vietnam. According to the original plan, the Buddha's relics would be enshrined at the pagoda until May 22. Due to the large number of visitors, the enshrining time was extended until 6 a.m. on May 23, after which they were taken to Phuc Son Pagoda in Bac Giang Province.
Bai Dinh Pagoda is located in Gia Sinh Commune, Gia Vien District, west of the ancient capital Hoa Lu, on National Highway 38B, north of the world heritage Trang An. The Bai Dinh Pagoda complex includes the ancient pagoda area and the newly built pagoda area since 2003. The total area is 539 hectares, of which the ancient Bai Dinh Pagoda is 27 hectares wide, the newly built area is 80 hectares.
The pagoda is located on the mountainside, among valleys, lakes and rocky mountains, at the western gateway to the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. The new pagoda architecture is massive but still imbued with traditional identity. The pagoda complex holds many Asian and Vietnamese records.
Bai Dinh Pagoda is 15 km from Hoa Lu city (Ninh Binh) and 95 km from Hanoi. From Hanoi, visitors can conveniently travel by car on the CT01 highway. Travel time is about 1 hour and 30 minutes. If traveling by motorbike, visitors can travel along National Highway 1A, then turn onto National Highway 21C.
Phuc Son Pagoda, Bac Giang
Time of worship: May 23-24
Due to a change in schedule compared to the original plan, the time to worship Buddha's relics at Phuc Son Pagoda will take place from 12:00 on May 23. This pagoda was built in 1680 under the Le Dynasty, located on Phuong Hoang Mountain with a unique terrain. Through the resistance wars, the pagoda was once a place for strategic meetings and shelter for the army and people. Recognized as a provincial historical and cultural relic in 2009, the pagoda preserves many valuable Buddhist artifacts and documents. Buddha's relics will be brought and placed in the 13-storey stupa, where the Jade Buddha statue of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong is kept - one of the most valuable Buddhist artworks in Vietnam.
Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace, Quang Ninh
Time of worship: May 25-28
Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace is located in Thuong Yen Cong commune, with an area of over 6,000 m², with 13th century Tran Dynasty architecture. The project is inspired by Hue Quang tower and ancient relics in Yen Tu, with typical features of arched gates, thick walls, short roofs covered with lotus-shaped tiles. From the center of Ha Long city, visitors can travel for about an hour (about 40-45 km) by car or motorbike along Highway 18 towards Uong Bi, then turn onto the road to Yen Tu following the signs.
Chuong Pagoda, Hung Yen
Time of worship: May 28-29
Chuong Pagoda, located in Hien Nam Ward, Hung Yen City, is a unique architectural and artistic relic, belonging to the Pho Hien special national relic site. The pagoda was built during the Le Dynasty (around the 15th - 17th centuries), known as "Pho Hien's most famous landscape".
The Chuong Pagoda has a structure in the style of "Inner public, outer private", with two long corridors connecting the front hall in the front and the back hall in the back, forming a rectangular frame surrounding the incense house, the upper hall or other architectural works in the middle. This type of structure can be seen in many other large pagodas in Vietnam such as Keo Pagoda (Thai Binh), Bai Dinh Pagoda (Ninh Binh).
Quan The Am Pagoda, Da Nang
Time of worship: May 30 - June 2
The time of enshrining the Buddha's relics at Quan The Am Pagoda coincides with the opening of the International Fireworks Festival. The final stop on the journey to welcome the Buddha's relics is the famous pagoda in Da Nang. Quan The Am Pagoda is located at the foot of Kim Son Mountain, one of the five peaks of Ngu Hanh Son. The pagoda was built in 1957 on the foundation of an old hermitage. The story of the pagoda is associated with the dream of monk Thich Phap Nhan, when he saw Bodhisattva Quan The Am appearing in the sacred cave. After 4 days of enshrining at Quan The Am Pagoda, the Buddha's relics will be brought back to India by special plane.
