President awards medals to athletes and coaches with high achievements at SEA Games 32

On the morning of May 23, at the Presidential Palace,President Vo Van Thuong met and congratulated the athletes and coaches who won outstanding gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games.

Speaking at the meeting, the coaches and athletes expressed their appreciation to the Party, State, ministries, branches, sponsors and especially the fans who always care, support, encourage and are the fulcrum for achieving high achievements in sports .

Honored to speak on behalf of the athletes at the meeting, athlete Le Khanh Hung, 15 years old, who helped the Vietnamese Sports Delegation win the first gold medal in Golf at the SEA Games, expressed his pride in wearing the national flag when winning the gold medal. This is the support and belief for Khanh Hung and his teammates to continue to train hard, strive, and achieve higher results for the country's sports.

Head coach of the Vietnam Women's National Football Team Mai Duc Chung, who has made great contributions in helping the Women's Team win 6 SEA Games gold medals, including 4 consecutive times, promised the President that he will unite the Team even more, overcome all difficulties, and achieve success at the upcoming World Cup finals in New Zealand.

The President shares the efforts and hardships of each officer, coach and athlete behind the medals.

Track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh, who brought home 4 gold medals for the country, shared the honor and pride of winning 12 gold medals at the SEA Games and said that she and other athletes will strive to practice and hone their skills to conquer new heights, first of all the 19th ASIAD and the 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Vo Van Thuong expressed his joy and emotion in welcoming and congratulating the officials, coaches and athletes for their excellent achievements at the 32nd SEA Games.

This was a successful SEA Games for Vietnam with the first time the Vietnamese Sports Delegation ranked first overall, broke 12 records, set 4 SEA Games records, bringing glory not only to the members of the Delegation but also to the Fatherland.

The President shared the efforts and hardships of each officer, coach and athlete behind the medals. Above all, the athletes met in their strong will and determination to overcome themselves, bringing glory to themselves and the Fatherland.

The President sent his regards, congratulations, encouragement and sharing to other members of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation participating in the 32nd SEA Games who were not present at the meeting and reminded that the achievements, whether they met expectations or not, were the results of persistent efforts, worthy of respect and always a valuable lesson for the next competitions.

The President said that the outstanding achievements and efforts to overcome difficulties and hardships of the coaches and athletes are also a fresh inspiration for the country's leaders in particular and the whole society in general, so that everyone can best fulfill their tasks and work.

Sharing his thoughts and admiration for the female athletes, the President mentioned the eight golden words that President Ho Chi Minh gave to Vietnamese women: “Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and capable”. The athletes’ efforts are extraordinary, spreading great inspiration for the efforts to rise up throughout society.

The President affirmed that the Party, State and People always pay attention and care to the country's sports career, including high-performance sports, with the awareness that the sports career is also a "work in revolutionary work" as President Ho Chi Minh once taught. High-performance sports is a "bridge", a channel to help Vietnam integrate and enhance its position and prestige in the international arena; at the same time, it contributes to inspiring, spreading motivation, and promoting the sports movement for all people.

Believing that achieving high results is difficult, but maintaining those results is even more difficult, the President suggested that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism must have a long-term vision to aim for higher goals in the future. Athletes, coaches and members need to maintain the inspiration and motivation of this success, continue to strive, train their will, moral qualities and expertise to conquer new heights.

In order to maintain and continue the achievements of sports, President Vo Van Thuong reminded ministries, branches and localities to continue training and fostering the next generation of athletes and coaches; and to take measures to attract all resources so that Vietnamese sports can go in the right direction, go further and reach higher.

Referring to the old saying "A good teacher produces good students", the President suggested that the sports sector, ministries, branches and localities pay attention to training and preparing a force of good coaches to continue leading the country's sports teams and athletes.

After the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh, who won 4 gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games and 12 gold medals at the SEA Games.

The President, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, and leaders of several ministries and sectors presented the Third Class Labor Medal to outstanding athletes and coaches. The President also presented souvenirs to delegates at the meeting./.
