Pork prices are high despite low demand

The price of live pigs has maintained a stable trend for many days. In the northern market, the price of live pigs ranges from 67,000 - 69,000 VND/kg. Specifically, Bac Giang is the only province in the region with a price of live pigs reaching 69,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh are the provinces that buy live pigs at 67,000 VND/kg, the lowest in the region.

The price of live pigs in the Central Highlands has not fluctuated up or down on the first day of the week. Currently, live pigs in this region are bought and sold at a difference of 67,000 - 73,000 VND/kg. Of which, the highest price in the region is 73,000 VND/kg recorded in Binh Thuan . Followed by Lam Dong, Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan provinces with 72,000 VND/kg.

In the southern market, the price of live pigs also maintained a sideways trend , fluctuating from 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg. This is the region with the highest price of live pigs in the country. In addition to Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong , Tay Ninh, Kien Giang, Soc Trang and Ho Chi Minh City trading at 73,000 VND/kg, the remaining localities in the region have prices of 74,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.

According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, the current price of live pigs remains quite high due to a sharp decrease in supply since the end of last year. In addition, thousands of farms have been relocated to other places, causing a decrease in output because many households no longer raise pigs. In addition to Dong Nai, another locality, Ben Tre, is also planning to relocate polluting livestock farms... Specifically, in the area, there are 2,309 livestock farms that must be relocated to form a concentrated livestock farming area according to the planning, converting small-scale livestock farming to large-scale concentrated livestock farming. The province also has a policy to support livestock farming households to change their occupations, creating new suitable livelihoods for owners who no longer raise pigs./.
