Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee urgently directs the issue of degraded school facilities

Faced with the public's criticism of the state of some schools in Ho Chi Minh City deteriorating, on September 22, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc directed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to urgently transfer 170 new desks and chairs from schools in Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh Tan Primary School (Ho Chi Minh City) before September 23 to ensure the best learning environment for students.

Recently, the press and public opinion have reported that some schools in Ho Chi Minh City are seriously degraded, directly affecting the quality of teaching and learning, causing frustration among parents and public opinion. To overcome this situation, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc has issued urgent instructions to overcome this situation.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested schools, departments, branches and People's Committees of wards and communes to seriously implement the following contents.

For Vinh Tan Primary School (HCMC), the HCM City Department of Education and Training is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Finance to urgently coordinate and arrange desks, chairs and necessary equipment, ensuring safe and adequate learning conditions for students. Complete and report the implementation results to the HCM City People's Committee before September 23.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City presides over and coordinates with the People's Committees of wards and communes to conduct a general review of facilities and teaching equipment at all public schools; classify the level of damage and degradation.

At the same time, advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on a comprehensive treatment plan, including urgent repairs and new investment plans in areas with rapid population growth, to avoid overload.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee directed the People's Committees of wards and communes to proactively arrange and advance funds from the local budget to immediately repair serious damages, ensuring the safety of students and teachers. Review and immediately report schools at risk of insecurity and degraded classrooms to the Department of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance coordinates with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on a plan to allocate funds and arrange capital to repair, upgrade, and build new school facilities in the period 2025 - 2030.

The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee monitors and urges the implementation; synthesizes and reports the implementation results to the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc requested heads of departments, branches, and Chairmen of People's Committees of wards and communes to seriously implement this directive to ensure the best learning environment for students in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, in the immediate future, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will urgently transfer 170 new desks and chairs from schools in Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh Tan Primary School to promptly meet the learning needs of students and ensure teaching conditions at the school.

Previously, the press and many parents of Vinh Tan Primary School students reported that the classrooms were dilapidated, the desks and chairs were old, the table tops were peeling, and the table legs were rusty.

According to Vinh Tan Primary School, the temporary use of old desks and chairs is due to the fact that in the 2025-2026 school year, after the merger of communes and wards, the number of students at the school increased dramatically with 240 students, equivalent to 5 classrooms.

Immediately after that, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued a document requesting units to review and report on the situation of facilities and teaching equipment to direct solutions to ensure students' learning and ensure teaching conditions at schools.
