The incident occurred on the night of March 31st. In a statement on April 1st, Jetstar said the plane had to return to Bali after a passenger caused a disturbance, attempted to open the aircraft door, and verbally abused the crew. Upon landing at Denpasar airport, the passenger was escorted off the plane by local authorities.
A video circulating on social media shows a woman sitting at the back of the plane attempting to lift the door handle. The crew quickly noticed this thanks to the alert signal, forcing the captain to make an announcement to the passengers.
According to data from Flightradar24, the plane turned around after about an hour of flying over the Indian Ocean.

Jetstar did not disclose the exact number of passengers and crew on the flight. The airline affirmed that the safety of passengers and crew is always its top priority, and thanked the crew and passengers for remaining calm in the tense situation.
"Such unacceptable behavior will never be tolerated on our flights," Jetstar stated.
This incident is just one of many recent cases of passengers causing disturbances on airplanes. There have been instances of passengers deliberately opening emergency exits, assaulting flight attendants, or forcing planes to make emergency diversions.
Last year, a passenger on an American Airlines flight broke down the aircraft door and injured a flight attendant, forcing other passengers to use duct tape to restrain him.
In 2023, a man on an Asiana Airlines flight opened an emergency exit just before landing because he felt suffocated. Following the incident, the airline decided to stop selling seats near the emergency exit on its Airbus A321 aircraft.
