Step by step digitization of agricultural production

Coffee is one of the main crops of the province. In recent years, coffee prices have continuously increased and set many new records, bringing high income to farmers. Therefore, the traditional way of thinking about coffee production has been changed and more and more people, cooperatives, and businesses are focusing on applying science and technology and digital transformation to production to improve the quality and value of this key agricultural product.

In recent times, in addition to investing in the application of scientific and technological advances, Lam Anh Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Glar commune, Dak Doa district) has promoted digital transformation to improve production efficiency as well as build a specialty coffee brand.

According to Director of the Cooperative Le Huu Anh: Since its establishment, the Cooperative has continuously cooperated with local people to expand raw material areas, apply scientific and technical advances in sustainable production to build typical local products.

Specifically, the Cooperative has linked up with 37 households to produce coffee according to 4C standards, creating a stable raw material area to build coffee products under the Slar Land Coffee brand and was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as achieving 3-star OCOP in 2020.

In addition, the Cooperative also developed a paper filter coffee product that was recognized as a 4-star OCOP. This is an important premise to encourage people and the Cooperative to produce and process high-quality clean coffee products to increase market value and income.

“In addition to focusing on linking production according to standards, the cooperative also promotes the application of digital transformation in production stages such as using electronic diaries to record the production process, trace product origin, etc.

At the same time, the Cooperative supports the construction of a software database as well as technical training for 37 associated households to apply and publicize product information on the Cooperative's website. Customers only need to access it to know the origin of the product.

In addition, households have also proactively used drones in pest control and prevention with organic biological products at low cost, ensuring health, saving compared to traditional methods and improving production efficiency" - Director of Lam Anh Agricultural and Service Cooperative informed.

As one of the households participating in the chain, Mr. Ue (Tuoh Klah village, Glar commune) said: “Since joining the 4C coffee production chain, I have been trained to apply scientific and technical advances and digital transformation in the process of caring for and monitoring the coffee garden very scientifically. Thanks to that, my family's 2 hectares of coffee yield 7-8 tons/year, the selling price is always 100-200 thousand VND/kg higher than the market price”.

In recent years, AgriS Gia Lai Agricultural Joint Stock Company (AgriS Gia Lai) has proactively deployed digital transformation solutions in raw material areas from management to investment, guiding people on how to cultivate sugarcane intelligently through software applications. Specifically, the Company uses Map info software to manage each sugarcane plot, planting date, and sugarcane variety in each locality in the raw material area.

In addition, during harvest season, AgriS Gia Lai uses TMS software to manage sugarcane transport vehicles to control costs, harvest, and transport the correct lots and plots of sugarcane growers who have signed consumption contracts.

Ms. Tran Thi Le - Deputy Director of AgriS Gia Lai Agricultural Joint Stock Company - shared: Digital transformation is one of the solutions widely deployed by the Company in the raw material area of more than 15,000 hectares to improve productivity, output and income for sugarcane growers.

We constantly improve management processes and investment solutions through software that closely monitors sugarcane fields, investment capital, cultivation techniques, harvesting, transportation, etc. to ensure the harmony of interests for sugarcane growers.

Along with that, the Department also focuses on supporting people, cooperatives, and businesses to build codes for growing areas and packaging facilities to help trace the origin, ensure product quality, and enhance the reputation of Gia Lai agricultural products in the market. Up to now, the province has issued 227 codes for growing areas with a total area of 9,668.7 hectares and 38 codes for agricultural product packaging facilities for export with a total capacity of 1,550-1,700 tons of fresh fruit/day.

“In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to promote and mobilize people and businesses to apply technology in agricultural and forestry production; guide the application of the traceability system, attaching growing area codes, and packaging facility codes to ensure requirements for domestic consumption and export of agricultural products.

At the same time, build and develop forms of cooperation linking production in a closed chain with the drastic participation of 4 parties (State, enterprises, scientists, farmers). Guide and support farmers and enterprises to bring agricultural, forestry and fishery products, especially key products and OCOP products, to e-commerce platforms.

Along with that, speed up the progress of building an agricultural data system, including data on land, agricultural and forestry production, crops, livestock, raw material areas, product traceability, agricultural service provision, facilitating interaction between businesses, including remote businesses.

"Applying new technologies, sensor technology, nanotechnology, fertilizer saving, drone technology in agricultural production and monitoring" - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed solutions.
