Re-ranking Xuan Lien Nature Reserve into Xuan Lien National Park

On the afternoon of April 25, in Thuong Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province, a ceremony was held to announce the decision to upgrade Xuan Lien Nature Reserve to Xuan Lien National Park. Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Forestry and Forest Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), international organizations and many people in the region.

Xuan Lien National Park was established with a total management area of ​​25,601.98 hectares, located in 5 communes and towns of Thuong Xuan district, including: Bat Mot, Yen Nhan, Luong Son, Van Xuan and Thuong Xuan town. Of which, the area of ​​special-use forest land accounts for 23,816.23 hectares, planned into 3 functional sub-zones: Strict protection sub-zone 10,869.18 hectares, ecological restoration sub-zone 10,393.38 hectares and service-administrative sub-zone 2,553.67 hectares.

In addition, there are 912.37 hectares of production forest and 873.38 hectares of semi-flooded land in the Cua Dat Lake area - a key irrigation project with special significance for water security and national defense.

The upgrade to a national park not only recognizes the special ecological role of Xuan Lien but also affirms the strategic importance of this area in the national special-use forest system.

Xuan Lien National Park is tasked with preserving the integrity of forest ecosystems, preserving and developing rare genetic resources, protecting biodiversity, and playing a key role in protecting the environment and stabilizing water resources for the lower Chu River.

In addition to its conservation mission, Xuan Lien National Park also has the function of developing ecotourism associated with environmental education, contributing to creating sustainable livelihoods for people in the buffer zone, promoting local socio -economic development, and associated with the requirements of maintaining national defense and security in border areas.

Becoming the 35th national park in the country is an important milestone, creating a solid legal basis for Xuan Lien to access domestic and foreign investment resources for scientific research, conservation, as well as exploitation of ecological values ​​and natural landscapes in the period of 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050.

To effectively promote Xuan Lien National Park, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province requires relevant agencies and units to focus on managing and protecting the existing natural forest area, resolutely preventing forest fires, illegal exploitation of forest products, hunting of wild animals, and encroachment on special-use forest resources.
