Cong Manh resigns as coach of Binh Duong team again: This time... he really quits
Coach Nguyen Cong Manh has left the position of "captain" of Binh Duong Club after the 1-3 loss to Ha Tinh Club in round 21 of V-League 2024 - 2025. The decision was agreed upon by both sides, after the Southeast team fell into a spiral of crisis.
Since the beginning of March, Binh Duong FC has been in a precipitous decline with 1 draw and 5 losses after 6 matches. Coach Nguyen Cong Manh's team has fallen to the bottom half of the rankings and is still at risk of having to play in the play-offs. Currently, Binh Duong FC is 6 points ahead of Binh Dinh FC, but has played 1 more match than its opponent. With only 1 point in the last 6 matches, Binh Duong FC is also the team with the worst performance in the V-League in the past 2 months.

Notably, this is not the first time coach Nguyen Cong Manh has left Binh Duong. Previously, in round 19 of the V-League, the coach born in 1982 announced his decision to resign right in the press conference room of Binh Duong Stadium after a 0-3 loss to Hanoi Club. Mr. Manh changed his decision after being persuaded by the leadership of Binh Duong Club. However, Binh Duong Club then continued to lose to Nam Dinh and Ha Tinh with the same score of 1-3. This time, there was nothing to save the relationship between the two sides.
Coach Cong Manh's replacement at Binh Duong Club is likely to be Nguyen Anh Duc, who left Binh Phuoc Club in the middle of the season. Anh Duc is 3 years younger than Coach Cong Manh, and spent 13 years with Binh Duong Club. After hanging up his boots, the player born in 1985 pursued a coaching career, but has never coached in the V-League, only coaching first-class teams such as Long An or Binh Phuoc.
Crisis
In the last 6 matches, Binh Duong FC has drawn 1, lost 5, scored 4 goals and conceded 16. Nguyen Tien Linh and his teammates have dropped to 8th place and may continue to decline if they do not improve. With an 11-point gap over bottom-placed Da Nang (both teams have only 5 matches left), Binh Duong FC is unlikely to be directly relegated. However, the risk of a play-off is another matter.
However, Binh Duong FC can stay in the league early if they regain their form. Statistics of the last 10 seasons show that teams need about 27 points to stay in the league. Binh Duong FC is less than one win away from this milestone.
Coach Nguyen Cong Manh is considered to be good at his profession, with a youthful and daring playing style and coaching style. He boldly changed Binh Duong Club's exercises in a more modern direction, trained players' positional thinking, created vertical attacks, and had interesting sideline and pass-and-pass tactics.

However, the young "general" of Binh Duong Club has not been able to master the dressing room and build a cohesive team. Many problems are dragging the team down. Despite being brought in at a high price, most of Binh Duong players have played below expectations.
Over the years, Binh Duong FC has welcomed many types of head coaches. Young and bold like Tran Minh Chien, Nguyen Cong Manh, experienced like Hoang Anh Tuan, Le Huynh Duc, and knowledgeable like Nguyen Thanh Son have also tried. But, all of them quietly left. However, when changing coaches repeatedly and still empty-handed for 6 years, perhaps the leadership of Binh Duong FC needs to understand that "beheading the general" is only a temporary solution.
In round 22, Binh Duong FC will return home to welcome Quang Nam. Coach Nguyen Anh Duc may be in the hot seat.
Binh Duong ranked 8th in the temporary rankings.
