As previously reported, on the evening of May 10 at Vinh Stadium, Hanoi Club won 2-1 against Song Lam Nghe An in round 22 of V-League 2024 - 2025.

The match had a notable situation on the sidelines when the referee team did not allow Hanoi FC to put Vietnamese-American midfielder Kyle Colona on the field when the team made a substitution in the 83rd minute. The reason given was because there was another Vietnamese-American player on the field at that time, Pierre Lamothe - who started from the beginning.

This incident was mentioned by Hanoi FC head coach Makoto Teguramori in the press conference after the match: "I wonder and do not understand why the fourth referee said we can only use one overseas Vietnamese player on the field. I think this issue needs to be clarified in referee management."

After the match, Tuoi Tre Online contacted the VFF Referee Board to investigate the incident, but received no response. A week after the match, Hanoi FC officially sent a letter stating their opinion on the incident.

It clearly stated the events in the 83rd minute: When the team wanted to replace the injured Thanh Chung with Vietnamese-American center-back Kyle Colona, the fourth referee (table referee) Nguyen Kim Viet Bao responded that there was already a Vietnamese-American player on the field (Pierre Lamothe), if they replaced another Vietnamese-American player, the match would be considered a 0-3 loss.

"Hanoi Club discussed with the referee and cited the regulations on registering overseas Vietnamese players as well as matches where the team uses 2 overseas Vietnamese players on the field. The referee replied that the other match was a different match, this was the referee's decision and he was receiving instructions from the match supervisor.

At the end of the match, the Hanoi Club's leadership met and discussed with the referee team and match supervisor Tran Quoc Dung. However, the match supervisor still affirmed that the referee was right in not allowing Hanoi Club to substitute the overseas Vietnamese player onto the field," the document quoted.

Hanoi FC also affirmed that the decision by referee Nguyen Kim Viet Bao and match supervisor Tran Quoc Dung not to allow the team to use two overseas Vietnamese players on the field was contrary to current regulations of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), seriously affecting the team's tactical plan during the sensitive phase of the match.

In addition, Hanoi Club also mentioned the situation that happened in the 51st minute, claiming that referee Hoang Thanh Binh, after consulting VAR, made an unreasonable decision, directly affecting the results and advantages of the team.

In this situation, Hanoi FC said that player Nguyen Quang Vinh of Song Lam Nghe An kicked Daniel's heel, causing Hanoi's foreign player to fall in the penalty area and get hurt.

Hanoi Club respectfully requests the Vietnam Football Federation to review the refereeing and match supervision work in the above match, and at the same time take strict action against violations, in order to ensure fairness and transparency for the tournament and the legitimate rights of the participating clubs.
