On the morning of December 25, the Management Board of the Project to Strengthen the Safe Crop Value Chain in the Northern Provinces of Vietnam for the period 2022-2026 held a preliminary conference in Hai Duong province. The project was implemented with support from the Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote safe and sustainable agricultural production.

In Hai Duong, the project has selected 6 cooperatives for support. In 2023, the project will focus on supporting 3 cooperatives: Tan Minh Duc (Gia Loc), Bach Dang Clean Agricultural Products (Kinh Mon), Nhan Hue Agricultural Services (Chi Linh). In 2024, the project will continue to support 3 other cooperatives: Nam Vu Clean Agriculture (Thanh Ha), Au Viet Fram (Kim Thanh), Sen Fram Agriculture (Nam Sach).

JICA experts also coordinated with the Central Project Management Board to monitor indicators such as cultivated area, consumption output and selling price for each crop season, and organized teaching and training programs on safe crop production. Many officers of the JICA Hai Duong Project Management Board participated in training in Japan, organized study tours in and outside the province as well as supported cooperatives to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 with organic fertilizers, biological products and training on production recovery skills.

In 2023, JICA will support 100% of the cost (about 400 million VND) for cooperatives to conduct training and coaching to improve management capacity, conduct market surveys, develop production and marketing plans, and apply basic GAP. In 2024, the support level will be reduced to 50% (about 200 million VND) focusing on materials, equipment and production tools.

By participating in the project, cooperatives have changed their awareness in the rational use of input materials (seeds, pesticides, fertilizers, chemicals, etc.); reduced losses, and improved the quality of post-harvest vegetables and fruits. Cooperative members have mastered the technical process of producing vegetables and fruits according to GAP, aiming at producing safe vegetables and fruits along the value chain.

The project is being implemented in 7 provinces and cities including: Hanoi, Son La, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh , Ha Nam and Hai Duong, managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
