Awarding more than 100 prizes at the National Cheo Festival - 2025

On the evening of November 2, in Bac Ninh province, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province coordinated with relevant units to organize the closing ceremony, summarize and award the National Cheo Festival - 2025 after more than 10 days of excitement, enthusiasm and artistic creativity.

The National Cheo Festival - 2025 is a large-scale art event, held periodically to honor, preserve and promote the value of traditional Cheo art heritage, and is also an opportunity for art troupes across the country to exchange, learn, and share creative and performance experiences.

This year, the National Cheo Festival gathered 12 professional art troupes, performing 21 plays with many rich themes, from history, folk to modern, vividly reflecting the breath of life. Each play is a creative voice, the crystallization of serious artistic work, passion and the unceasing desire to contribute of Cheo artists nationwide.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Festival Steering Committee Ta Quang Dong acknowledged and praised the great contributions of art troupes, artists, directors, scriptwriters, musicians, designers, and technicians - those who made the success of this year's Festival.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong and Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Bac Ninh Provincial People's Council Tran Thi Hang awarded Gold Medals to two plays: "Nguyen Van Cu - Great Youth" of the Army Cheo Theatre and "Thien Menh" of Bac Ninh Cheo Theatre.

The Deputy Minister pointed out that from the simple songs and sweet melodies of the Northern Delta, Cheo has transcended time and space to become a precious heritage of the nation. This festival, held in Bac Ninh - the land of Quan Ho folk songs, where the quintessence of Kinh Bac culture is condensed - makes the encounter between Cheo and Quan Ho even more meaningful, like a dialogue between the unique traditional cultural values ​​of the Vietnamese people.

The festival is not only an occasion to honor artistic values, but also an opportunity to assess the current situation, discover talents, and nurture the next generation, thereby helping Cheo art units continue to improve themselves, aiming at contemporary audiences. This is also an opportunity for us to look at and discuss more deeply the challenges of traditional art in the context of integration, digital transformation and changes in public taste.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized: "We are pleased to see that, through each play and each role, the art of Cheo is changing strongly. Many troupes have made discoveries and innovations in staging, music, costumes, combining tradition and contemporary. These efforts show the spirit of innovation and integration without losing its identity - a correct direction for Cheo to continue to live sustainably in modern life."

However, it is necessary to frankly admit that, in order for the art of Cheo to continue to spread in today's social life, there is a great need for innovation in creative thinking, performance methods, and investment and support mechanisms from the State. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to accompany and direct specialized units to build a strategy to preserve and promote the art of Cheo in the direction of both preserving the original and creatively adapting and connecting with modern life.

Delegates awarded gold medals to artists

"I believe that, from the success of this year's Festival, Vietnamese Cheo art will continue to have new developments - more confident, more professional, closer to the people, worthy of being the "voice of the soul" of Vietnamese people in the new era. The 2025 National Cheo Festival has ended, but the echoes of Cheo melodies, of the roles, of the passion for art still resonate forever. Hopefully, after this Festival, each artist will return to their unit with new pride, with new inspiration to continue creating" - Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed.

In his summary assessment of the Festival, playwright Chu Van Thom - Master of Folklore, State Prize for Literature and Arts, Chairman of the Arts Council said: At this Festival, works with modern themes are almost on par with historical works. This proves that Cheo makers have paid much attention and are exploring and experimenting with modern themes to bring the breath of today's life into Cheo as sweetly as Cheo has been shown very successfully in the areas of folk themes, feudal history, legends and wild history.

Besides, the fact that many young actors participate in new plays is a positive sign that the art of Cheo is being continued and renewed to suit the breath of the times, avoiding the risk of fading away, resisting the challenge from the "storm" of Industry 4.0 and the strong dominance of many other art forms in the digital age.

Performing arts program

According to playwright Chu Van Thom, the War to defend the Fatherland has been over for more than half a century, but the theme of revolutionary war is still considered a "source-oriented" theme because it is closely linked to the core values ​​and foundations of the nation that are thoroughly exploited. The image of Vietnamese women is not only as guerrillas in the rear but also on the front line, as soldiers, gunners, commanders, nurses, doctors, liaisons, scouts, engineers (bomb disposal, road clearing) and frontline workers..... In addition, in this Festival, the theme of Party and State leaders is clearly shown as people with heart and vision, their love is loyal and steadfast and always puts the interests of the nation above all else. With their wives, children and comrades, they are confidants and soul mates.

Performing arts program

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded gold medals to the creative teams of two plays: "Nguyen Van Cu - Great Youth" of the Army Cheo Theater and "Thien Menh" of the Bac Ninh Cheo Theater; awarded gold medals to 33 individuals with outstanding achievements; and silver medals to 65 artists and actors.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded outstanding awards to actors and actresses, and outstanding awards to creative components including literary authors, adaptation authors, directors, art designers, choreographers and art directors.
