In the field of science and technology, the work "Research and application of advanced three-phase composite materials and structures in engineering" led by Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Dinh Duc, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was honored.

The project cluster “Research and application of advanced three-phase composite materials and structures in engineering” is the result of the discovery of a new carbon-carbon composite material structure with a three-phase spatial structure with super mechanical strength, super thermal strength and super light weight, which plays a very important role in the fields of industry and national security, especially in missile manufacturing technology.

Therefore, this material is the focus of research by superpowers. The idea of researching such a new type of super-durable carbon composite material to improve the range and flight time of missiles is associated with the doctoral thesis of Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc at the Composite Materials Laboratory of the Institute of Machine Building Research, Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union - one of the most advanced and modern laboratories on composite materials in the world since the late 90s of the 20th century.

The discovery of Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc was the answer that many physicists and material technologists at that time could not solve to improve the physical and mechanical properties of composite materials, especially taking into account the nonlinear relationship and interaction of the reinforcing components in the material.

His research results on the ideal structure of 3D and 4D composite materials have been widely published in the world's leading scientific journals, recognized and highly appreciated by the international scientific community, contributing significantly to promoting the development of the new materials industry, and at the same time being the foundation for practical applications in the fields of life, industry and national security.

Currently, almost all rocket engine nozzles are 3-phase carbon-carbon composites with 3D or 4D spatial structure, and this detail plays an important role in gradually increasing the missile's range from 5,000 km to the longest range reaching about 10,000 km at present.

During his research in Vietnam, Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc established a strong research group on advanced materials and structures, thereby forming a scientific school in this field to continue researching, training young talents for the country and researching the application of scientific results into practice.

In 2010-2012, Professor Duc collaborated with the Institute of Shipbuilding Research - Nha Trang University, successfully applied three-phase polymer composite to waterproof ship engine bays by adding titanium oxide particles and was granted a patent by the Intellectual Property Office in 2016. His solution has brought high economic efficiency to the receiving and using unit, and opened up prospects for application in many fields in the future.

Along with Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc's work, three other works were honored at the Bao Son Award 2024, including:

Field of animal and environmental protection with the project of Research and production of African swine fever vaccine (Product name: AVAC ASF LIVE) carried out by Dr. Nguyen Van Diep, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company.

Health Science field with the Research Project on the application of endoscopic surgery in the treatment of some thyroid diseases conducted by Labor Hero, People's Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Ngoc Luong.

Bao Son Award was established in 2010 by Bao Son Education and Training Support Fund, under the auspices of Bao Son Group, and is one of the prestigious annual awards in Vietnam for research works, scientific and artistic creations with high applicability and humanistic values.

The Bao Son Awards 2024 will take place on the evening of May 11 at the Hanoi Opera House, with each award worth US$120,000, accompanied by a Gold Cup and Certificate. According to the long-term plan, the award value will increase by US$10,000 each year, aiming for the US$1 million mark by 2087.
