'The Prince of Bac Lieu' leaves theaters, earning 36 billion VND

Ly Minh Thang's film ended its run in theaters after more than a month of release. The film's revenue reached 36 billion VND.

Labour from Bac Lieu left theaters after January 9. In recent days, the work has very few screenings and ticket sales are slow. According to statistics from the independent unit Box Office Vietnam, the brainchild of Ly Minh Thang has 36 billion VND after more than 5 weeks of release. With this achievement, Labour from Bac Lieu in the group of Vietnamese films that will lose money in 2024.

Lynx or many international films like Moana 2, Laughter Across Borders have all cooled down, creating conditions for Ly Minh Thang's brainchild to dominate the theater, with an overwhelming number of shows. The crew invested heavily in the setting and costumes of the movie "Prince of Bac Lieu".

Set in the Southern region in the 1930s, The Prince of Bac Lieu Follows Ba Hon (Song Luan), son of Councilor Linh (Thanh Loc) - the first banker in Vietnam. After studying in France, Ba Hon proves himself to the world through many extravagant games. He spends money on entertainment, with the catchphrase: "Wherever the young master of Bac Lieu goes, joy follows."

After its release, the film was met with controversy over its setting, costumes, and script. Some viewers reacted harshly, criticizing the film for being “too creative” and based on real historical figures.

In response to the audience's reaction, the director said that he and his team had researched and collected a lot of documents before starting to make the film. However, the work still had to have creative elements so that the audience could easily access it and not feel unfamiliar. Ly Minh Thang affirmed that he did not defame or exaggerate the drama, distorting the truth.
