As of June 2025, the sea turtle conservation program at Six Senses Con Dao has officially recorded a significant milestone – more than 30,000 baby turtles have been successfully hatched and released into the ocean. This achievement is the crystallization of close cooperation between the parties, originating from a special natural event: mother turtles choose the resort’s isolated beach as a place to lay their eggs for many breeding seasons.
Based on that reality, since 2018, the "Let's Get Cracking" Turtle Hatchery Center has been established right on the resort grounds. The nests are carefully moved from the sandbank to the incubation area with strictly controlled environmental conditions, to increase the hatching success rate and the survival rate of the baby turtles when returning to the sea.
Blessed with many favorable conditions by Mother Nature, Con Dao is a great place for green sea turtles.
The surrounding archipelago consists of 16 large and small uninhabited islands and more than 80% of the island's land area is a strictly preserved and protected National Park reserve. Separated from the development speed of the mainland. Thanks to its pristine natural conditions - no light pollution, no noise and no single-use plastic - this place has become a familiar nesting destination for many mother turtles every breeding season, especially two rare turtle species: Green turtles (Chelonia Mydas) and Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys Imbricata).
In nature, when it is breeding season, mother turtles will come ashore to build a nest and lay eggs, then immediately return to the sea, leaving the tiny eggs to hatch on their own. That is why mother turtles often choose deserted coastal areas with no artificial impacts.
Turtles lay eggs in Con Dao
Although the natural environment here remains pristine, this is one of the factors that pose many dangers to turtle egg nests that cannot protect themselves. Realizing this limitation, Six Senses Con Dao has redesigned the beach in front of the resort, to optimize the birth rate of turtle eggs and minimize negative impacts on the lifespan of newborn turtles. The temperature of the sand incubating eggs plays an essential role in determining the gender of the turtles when they are born and affects the egg birth process. Therefore, the turtle egg nests are carefully cared for by managing and adjusting the appropriate sand temperature. The resort also uses a glare-free lighting system in the villa and residence areas to minimize artificial light to ensure the most natural environment.
Committed to developing in harmony with nature, Six Senses Con Dao owns 50 luxurious villas with separate infinity pools, exquisitely designed, combining modern beauty and inspiration from traditional Vietnamese fishing villages. The villas are built with sustainable materials including bamboo and wood, applying natural ventilation techniques, opening up beautiful sea views, bringing a peaceful and close-to-nature resort experience to visitors.
Spa & Wellness Village at the resort is built on an area of 1.5 hectares - a comprehensive recovery space inspired by the tranquility of water lilies, in harmony with nature, nestled between mountains and natural streams and lakes. Here, the health care journey begins with in-depth analysis, from which appropriate treatments are personalized, while combining with world- leading therapists to standardize experiences such as detox, sleep improvement, Ayurveda, yoga, meditation and sound therapy.
Along with that are sustainable initiatives such as organic gardens, material recycling, compost production and environmentaleducation programs for the community, contributing to building a model of responsible tourism and preserving biodiversity for Con Dao.
Con Dao – not only is it a place that marks the survival journey of tens of thousands of sea turtles, but it is also a vivid symbol of the cooperation between the state, businesses and the community in preserving and sustainably developing a precious land.
