According to medical records, on May 16, Ms. HTY (70 years old, residing in Ward 3, Soc Trang City) had symptoms of high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, and was taken by her family to a private medical facility for treatment.
After 2 days of treatment, Ms. Y.'s condition did not improve. In the early morning of May 18, her family took her to Soc Trang General Hospital for further treatment.
Here, Ms. Y. was lethargic, had a high fever and subcutaneous hemorrhage. Test results showed that the patient was positive for the dangerous human streptococcus disease.
After many days of intensive treatment at Soc Trang General Hospital, the patient's condition has now stabilized. However, due to his old age, poor health, and poor appetite, he will continue to stay in the hospital for monitoring. It is expected that if his health improves, he will be discharged this weekend.
According to the patient's family, Ms. Y. is a housewife who prepares food for her family of 6 every day. A few days before, she cooked pork bones and meat bought at the market near An Nghiep Industrial Park (Chau Thanh District, Soc Trang) for her family to eat.
Immediately after the results of Ms. Y. being infected with streptococcus suis, the Soc Trang Provincial Center for Disease Control coordinated with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and the Soc Trang City Medical Center to carry out epidemiological investigation, environmental treatment and food traceability activities.
Ms. Y's family members are also being monitored for 14 days. Currently, their health is normal.
