The Cinema Department requested to cut the scene of Uyen An wearing the Mother Goddess costume in the Thai film.

(Dan Tri) - The Cinema Department has asked the distributor of the film "404 Run Now" to cut the controversial scene of Uyen An, when she appeared in the work wearing a Vietnamese Mother Goddess costume.

Recently, the Department of Cinema sent a document to the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) stating that the scene with actress Uyen An in Mother Goddess worship costume in the movie 404 Run Now has been cut.

In the document, the Department of Cinema stated that on January 1, the agency received an email from an audience reporting the use of Mother Goddess worship costumes in the film 404 Run Now.

The Department said it had responded: The content of the film does not violate the law on cinema, however, to avoid causing misunderstanding about the meaning and value of intangible cultural heritage, on January 6, the Department requested the distributor to cut out this image.

Since January 6, the distributor has used the edited version of the film to continue commercial release.

The movie 404 Run Now officially hit theaters in Vietnam from December 27, 2024, and has so far earned 100 billion VND.

The film is a comedy, a typical Thai spiritual film, about the main character's fraudulent plan and the appearance of a ghost that ruined all his plans.

The film features a Thai cast. In the film, Uyen An - Tran Thanh's younger sister - plays a female ghost, in the image of a Holy Lady in the Mother Goddess religion.

As soon as it was introduced, Uyen An's character design caused controversy. Many opinions said that this design was incorrect, even blasphemous to the Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship.

In response to mixed opinions about her character, Uyen An said that movies are the director's imaginary world , unrelated to real life. Movie audiences will not think wrongly about culture because it is a movie.

"With a film that has been censored by cultural agencies and film experts, things that are not allowed to appear will definitely not appear," said Tran Thanh's sister.
