In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that Resolution 72 of the Politburo affirmed that strengthening primary health care and developing family medicine is the key direction to realize the important goal of the health sector, which is to provide universal health care. This is not only a major political policy but also an important foundation to strengthen and develop the Vietnamese health system.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy emphasized that this is a milestone marking a change in the thinking of healthcare development, with primary healthcare being an important pillar, helping the healthcare system to be fair, sustainable and adaptable to the new requirements of the cause of national construction and development.
International cooperation activities in the health sector do not only stop at transferring technology and knowledge, but also help mobilize comprehensive resources, strengthen system capacity and develop initiatives in human resource training, scientific research and medical practice, especially family medicine.
The Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy said that family medicine is a clinical specialty and a method of organizing a modern health system, where people receive continuous, comprehensive care, linking prevention and treatment, between individuals and the community, according to the principles of this field. The model has been proven effective in many countries and in Vietnam.

Dr. Duong Huy Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) spoke at the conference.
At the conference, Dr. Duong Huy Luong , Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) said that family medicine in Vietnam has a history of nearly 25 years of formation and development. Before 2000, this major did not exist, and it was not until 2002 that the family medicine department was established. To date, the country has more than 10 schools training in this major.
Dr. Duong Huy Luong emphasized that with the orientation of "early and remote disease prevention", strengthening the family medicine network will help improve access to medical services, expand health care from prevention to treatment, and at the same time ensure fairness and sustainable development of the health sector.
"Implementing this policy requires relying on primary health care, especially family medicine, to help hospitals and clinics not just wait for patients to come but proactively participate in early disease prevention.
In fact, in Hue, after the recent flood, medical stations were deeply submerged, but after only two weeks, the city returned to normal, showing the important role of the medical team and family medicine in restoring and taking care of community health," Dr. Duong Huy Luong shared.

Strengthening primary health care and developing family medicine are key directions to realize the important goal of the health sector which is universal health coverage.
According to Dr. Duong Huy Luong, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment is currently continuing to perfect policies and guidelines for implementing family medicine activities, in order to create a legal basis, expand the scope of activities, unify training and improve the effectiveness of primary health care for the people.
