In the former Soviet Union and the current Russian Federation, every year on May 9, in addition to military parades and state-level celebrations, Red Army veterans often gather to recall memories of the difficult and arduous years of fighting to protect the Fatherland.
Often, in many places in the Soviet Union and later many CIS countries, veterans hold meetings. They organize activities to remember their fallen comrades and lay flowers on their graves. They often hold a minute of silence, cry or whisper: “Don’t let it happen again!”
