The ceremonies for Mrs. Carter began on November 27 with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex at Georgia Southwestern State University, according to AFP. The late first lady was then taken to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, where the public was invited to pay their respects.

Among those invited to attend the memorial service for Mrs. Carter on the afternoon of November 28 were US President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Kamala Harris. Also attending the ceremony were First Lady Jill Biden and former First Ladies Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.
The official funeral for family and friends will take place at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia on November 29 (US time).
The Carters have been married for more than 77 years. Unlike many other first ladies, Mrs. Carter has attended White House cabinet meetings, voiced her opinions on controversial issues, and represented her husband on several foreign trips. "Rosalynn is my best friend, a perfect extension of me, probably the most influential person in my life," Mr. Carter said while serving as president of the United States from 1997 to 1981.

After leaving the White House, former President Carter and his wife co-founded the Carter Center in Atlanta to continue their work. Mrs. Carter focuses on mental health issues, raising funds for efforts to support people with mental illness and the homeless, according to AP.
