At the reception, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet congratulated Mr. Edgar Doerig on his appointment as the new Asia- Pacific Regional Representative of OIF; expressing his belief that in his new position, Mr. Edgar Doerig will continue to contribute to the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam as well as Francophone countries in the region and OIF.
Affirming that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to providing maximum support within its capacity for the activities of the OIF Regional Office, the Deputy Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the important role and contribution of the OIF in strengthening cooperation and solidarity between the people and governments of French-speaking countries around the world .
Vietnam always attaches importance to cooperation activities with OIF, actively and responsibly participating in OIF activities. The Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude for the effective cooperation and coordination of the OIF Asia-Pacific Regional Representative Office in Hanoi over the past time.
On this occasion, the Deputy Minister shared some of Vietnam's priorities in cooperation with OIF in the coming time, proposing that OIF increase support for training and teaching French and in French in Vietnam, including training French for Vietnamese military and police forces participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions, while promoting cultural cooperation, art exchange, and people-to-people exchange; promoting economic cooperation between Vietnamese partners and Francophone partners, especially in Africa, including through the tripartite cooperation model in the agricultural sector.
The Deputy Minister also asked OIF to support efforts to maintain peace, stability, safety and maritime security in the East Sea .

For his part, Mr. Edgar Doerig expressed his joy and honor to be assigned the responsibility of representing OIF in the Asia-Pacific region, a region that is developing very dynamically. He expressed his thanks to the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries and sectors of Vietnam that have been actively cooperating with OIF.
Mr. Edgar Doerig also acknowledged the priorities of the Vietnamese side, and shared the priorities and operational programs of the Regional Office in the coming time.
He affirmed his commitment to actively and closely coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries, sectors and agencies of Vietnam to implement Vietnam's cooperation priorities on enhancing the teaching of French and in French, promoting cultural cooperation as well as economic, trade and investment cooperation with Francophone partners.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the Regional Representative affirmed that OIF strongly supports strict compliance with international law and the law of the sea.
The meeting ended in an open and sincere atmosphere. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and close coordination to achieve the set goals, promote good results and potential for future cooperation.
