(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The university with the largest number of students in the country will continue to prioritize admission based on high school transcripts in its direct admission method.
On February 12th, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City announced that it will continue to use high school transcripts for admissions.
Previously, in October 2024, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City announced that from 2025, the university would reduce its university admission methods to only three.
These methods include direct admission; admission based on the results of the aptitude test organized by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City; and admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam.

At the same time, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City encourages its member universities to develop combined admission methods to recruit candidates with comprehensive abilities that are suitable for the training objectives of their respective fields/professions.
This information has led many to believe that the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City will abandon its preferential admission method for high school graduates. This is a form of admission based on academic transcripts, with eligible candidates being high school graduates from 149 high schools according to the university's updated list.
However, the leaders of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City stated that the university will still use high school transcripts as part of its direct admission method.
Specifically, for the direct admission method, there will be three categories: direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training ; direct admission for the best students in high schools according to the regulations of the Ho Chi Minh City National University; and priority admission for outstanding students from 149 schools based on an integrated approach using multiple criteria (foreign language certificates, other activities) along with high school academic results.
The list of 149 priority high schools for admission remains unchanged from 2024.
Regarding the 2025 aptitude test, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City reported that nearly 75,000 candidates registered for the first phase in just 22 days. It is projected that the total number of registered candidates for the first phase will reach 120,000.
The first phase of the exam will be held in 25 provinces/cities on March 30th. Results will be announced on April 16th. For the second phase, candidates can register from April 17th to May 7th. The exam is expected to take place in 11 provinces/cities on June 1st. Results will be announced on June 16th.
The Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) has the largest number of students in the country. According to the latest data, the university has approximately 95,000 full-time undergraduate students, along with thousands of postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
