Grand exhibition at Hanoi Children's Palace

(CLO) Hanoi Children's Palace is positioned as the "heart" of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, a "grand exhibition" with community activities.

At the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, the “Creative Crossroads” is designed to pass through the capital’s typical historical and cultural heritage works. In particular, the Hanoi Children’s Palace located at 36-38 Ly Thai To is positioned as the “heart” of the Festival route, forming a complex that focuses on many creative activities.

From the main idea of ​​“Hanoi Children’s Palace: Memories for the future”, a grand exhibition will be formed here. During the 9 days of the Festival, the Children’s Palace will host a series of exhibitions, film screenings, stage performances, playgrounds, architectural installations; combined with satellite events including workshops, experiential journeys, talks and community activities.

The series of activities involved diverse participation from artists, architects, filmmakers, cultural and art researchers, etc. The curatorial team selected works that responded and interacted in harmony with the context, as well as compositions that had a dialogue with each space and memory of the Children's Palace; thereby continuing intergenerational dialogues and narratives, to suggest perceptions of the past and visions for the future.

In 1974, architect Le Van Lan designed the Hanoi Children's Palace with a scale of 6 floors with an area of ​​over 10,000 m2, including 100 classrooms. The project deserves to be a "modern architectural heritage" not only because of its historical and architectural value but also because it bears the historical mark of a period when the country was still facing many difficulties.

Unlike the exhibition spaces in previous editions of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival, which were renovated from unused functional areas, “Hanoi Children’s Palace: Memories for the Future” is carried out in the movement of a “living” heritage, where the space itself becomes a material and artistic partner.

The nostalgia of the Children's Palace is also the memory of many people. Looking, listening and experiencing the exhibition is touching the invisible heritage, helping to inspire participants to think more deeply about memories and connect to the future.

With exhibition spaces and program organization spread throughout the areas, efforts to connect the art practice community, as well as giving the architectural lines of the building a new look, Hanoi Children's Palace continues to create cultural memories, setting the stage for reflections on how we can live with heritage.

According to the Organizing Committee, through the pilot at the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, it is possible to propose the operating model of the Children's Palace to become the Palace of Arts and Creativity in the center of Hanoi.

Currently, the new Children's Palace has moved to Nam Tu Liem district, so the space and infrastructure of the old area are rich in history, have many utilities and especially have inheritance, very suitable to be converted into a space for creative activities.
