That was the statement of former Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2010-2014, Mr. Nikolay Azarov, to the media recently. He said that in the past 6 months, the US has actively met and probed many members of the Kiev government.
“They are forming their views on these politicians , looking for someone who can replace Mr. Zelenskyy,” he said.
He said the current corruption scandal, involving people close to Mr. Zelenskyy, is a sign that the United States is giving a green light to Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies. “If the United States had objected, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau would never have acted like that,” Mr. Azarov said.

The former Ukrainian Prime Minister also said it was difficult to predict what would happen if Mr. Zelenskyy left office. According to him, there is currently no political figure in Ukraine capable of bringing the country back to a stable orbit.
In Ukraine, martial law and mobilization, which were imposed in February 2022, have been extended for the 17th time. As a result, no elections – parliamentary , presidential or local – have been held. Mr. Azarov believes that this situation is creating conditions for Mr. Zelenskyy to continue in office even though his term ends on May 20, 2024.
Previously on November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) launched a large-scale operation called Midas to clarify the corruption network in the energy sector.
The raids were carried out at the home of businessman Timur Mindich, known as Mr Zelenskyy’s “wallet”, as well as the residence of Justice Minister German Galuschenko (formerly Energy Minister) and the headquarters of Energoatom. The investigation alleges that the ring laundered around $100 million.
Those charged include Igor Mironyuk (former Energy Minister's advisor), Dmitry Basov (Energoatom's safety director), businessmen Alexander Zukerman and Igor Fursenko, Lesya Ustimenko, Lyudmila Zorina, and former Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Chernyshov. Mindich left Ukraine just hours before the raid began and is now in Israel.
