General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), Deputy Minister of National Defense attended and presented the First Class Fatherland Protection Medal to the Office of the General Staff.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: General Do Ba Ty, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, former member of the Central Military Commission, former Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, former Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association ; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Chief of the General Staff, former Chief of the General Staff through the periods.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Major General Tran Tuan Hung, Chief of the General Staff Office, affirmed: Only 5 days after the establishment of the General Staff, on September 12, 1945, in the first meeting, when discussing organizational work, Comrade Hoang Van Thai, the first Chief of the General Staff of our Army, decided to establish an Office to coordinate with agencies, serving the Commander-in-Chief in operating and commanding the armed forces.

Over the past 80 years, in each historical period, the organization, functions and tasks of the Office have been adjusted, but under the direct leadership and direction of the Party Committee, the Chief of the General Staff, the coordination of agencies, units, generations of cadres, employees and soldiers, the Office of the General Staff has continuously grown and developed in all aspects, always fulfilling well the functions of a military staff, synthesis and administrative agency.

During the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, the Office performed well its assigned functions and tasks, promptly serving the Chief of the General Staff in commanding and directing the struggle for national liberation and reunification.

As the pioneers and followers, with the spirit of "all for the frontline", the officers and soldiers of the Office always closely followed the Campaign Command both in the rear and the frontline day and night, together with the whole Party, the whole people and the whole army to establish glorious feats, successively defeating the wars of aggression, the peak of which was the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory "famous in five continents, shaking the earth" in 1954 and the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign in the Spring of 1975.

During the period of building and defending the Fatherland, the General Staff Office continues to promote the tradition of Uncle Ho's Army and the tradition of the General Staff; always thoroughly grasp and correctly apply the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, directives and resolutions of superiors, regulations and rules of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff; proactively advise, synthesize, review, process, draft documents and, together with functional agencies, advise and propose to the Chief of the General Staff to direct, manage, command, and successfully carry out military and defense tasks according to plan and unexpected tasks assigned by the Ministry.

In recognition of its outstanding achievements over the past 80 years, the Party and State awarded the Office of the General Staff the Second Class Military Exploit Order, the Second Class Fatherland Protection Order... In this solemn ceremony, the Office of the General Staff was awarded the First Class Fatherland Protection Order by the Party and State.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Central Military Commission, leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff, General Nguyen Tan Cuong acknowledged, commended and warmly congratulated the achievements of the General Staff Office over the past 80 years.

To successfully complete the task, General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested the General Staff Office to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws on military and defense tasks; focusing on the Homeland Protection Strategy in the new situation, the National Defense Strategy, and the Vietnam Military Strategy. Proactively coordinate closely with agencies and units, promptly advise the Chief of the General Staff on policies and measures to successfully carry out military and defense tasks.

Focus on improving the quality of general staff; build and manage well the plans of the General Staff; carefully study the directions of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the Chief of the General Staff; the functions, tasks, and working relationships of agencies and units; regulations, procedures, and principles in staff and document processing; regularly grasp the progress and quality of work, proactively coordinate and urge agencies and units to properly implement the plan, ensuring quality and time.

Along with that, the General Staff Office needs to continue to promote the tradition of "Loyalty, honesty, solidarity, coordination, accurate advice, and thoughtful service". Focus on improving the comprehensive leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party committees and organizations at all levels, building a clean and strong Party organization associated with building a comprehensive, strong, "exemplary, typical" agency; promote administrative reform, digital transformation, arouse the desire to contribute, compete to excellently complete all assigned tasks, contribute to building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern Army, and join the country in entering a new era - the era of national advancement.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong noted that the General Staff Office must pay special attention to selecting, training, and using its staff, employees, and soldiers. The officers, employees, and soldiers selected to work at the Office must have strong political will, be absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland, and the people, have capacity, qualifications, have the right motivation, a high sense of responsibility, and strict discipline; have professional, creative, and scientific working methods; dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, match words with actions, uphold principles and discipline, be dedicated, devoted, and devoted to work, overcome all difficulties, with the spirit of "Doing all the work, not just working until the end of the day".
