This year, the 10th grade entrance exam in the province will take place on June 1-2. At this time, schools are focusing on reviewing for exams, orienting career guidance, and classifying students after graduating from junior high school. The Departmentof Education and Training has assigned specialized departments and schools to ensure conditions for the exam to take place safely and in accordance with regulations.
This year, the province will enroll 15,660 students for the 10th grade entrance exam. The Department of Education and Training has established 43 testing sites at Son La Specialized High School, the provincial boarding school for ethnic minorities, 11 secondary and high school boarding schools for ethnic minorities, 2 secondary and high schools, and 28 high schools. Students register for admission by district or city, and take the exam at the school they are applying to.
The entrance exam questions are set by the Department of Education and Training's Examination Council, ensuring that the knowledge is within the 9th grade junior high school curriculum. Candidates taking the entrance exam for grade 10 at non-specialized high schools will take the math and literature exams on June 1st; and the English exam on the morning of June 2nd. For admission to grade 10 at Son La Specialized High School, there are 4 subjects, of which 3 subjects (math, literature, English) will be tested with the same questions as the Department of Education and Training and an additional specialized subject will be tested on the afternoon of June 2nd. For Chu Van An Primary, Secondary and High School, the exam will be organized by Tay Bac University in accordance with regulations.
Right from the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training advised the Provincial People's Committee to announce the enrollment plan for the 2024-2025 school year; issued an official dispatch guiding the Department of Education and Training of districts and cities; and schools to organize review sessions for grade 9 students to take the entrance exam for grade 10; established a core group of subjects to advise secondary school teachers in districts and cities on improving the quality of review sessions for the entrance exam for grade 10. Directed schools to organize mock exams for grade 10 admission, thereby analyzing and evaluating the results and having appropriate review plans, aiming to improve the quality and distribution of entrance exam scores for grade 10. Directed high schools to promote enrollment counseling at secondary schools, clearly describing the subject combinations for students to register for; proactively preparing facilities to ensure that the entrance exam takes place smoothly and in accordance with regulations.
Mr. Quang Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: The Department absolutely does not allow candidates to drop out of the exam due to difficult conditions due to objective factors and ensures that the exam is safe, serious and of high quality. Before the exam takes place, the Department will organize inspections of exam preparation work at a number of schools in the province.
At To Hieu Secondary School, Son La City, these days, teachers and students are focusing on reviewing for math, literature, and English exams. With the motto of learning to the point of certainty, teachers have developed a testing and assessment plan to know the learning ability of each student, from which they can plan timely training and tutoring; helping students recognize their academic ability before choosing a suitable high school to apply to. In addition, the school also advises and guides students to choose a career that is suitable for their abilities.
Pham Thi Hoang Quyen, a 9A4 student at To Hieu Secondary School in Son La City, shared: Right from the beginning of the school year, my teachers have guided me in reviewing my knowledge, helping me become more confident. In addition to studying in class, I review at home and refer to many lessons online. I am confident of achieving high results in the upcoming 10th grade entrance exam.
In Song Ma district, there are 2,769 ninth graders in the 2023-2024 school year. The district's Department of Education and Training has directed secondary schools to provide review guidance for students, in accordance with their abilities, qualifications and aspirations. The schools are directed to analyze the results of quality surveys and mock tests to adjust the content, review methods and practice test-taking skills for students. Schools organize tests in many different forms, helping students get familiar with the types of tests and gain experience in test-taking skills.
For high schools, at this time, the work of announcing admissions has also been completed; establishing admissions councils, promoting the exam, preparing conditions to receive candidates' applications and facilities for the upcoming 10th grade entrance exam. Teacher Bac Cam Phen, Principal of Co Ma High School, Thuan Chau District, said: Next school year, the school will enroll 270 students for grade 10. Up to now, the school has organized 4 delegations to junior high, primary and secondary schools, promoting and advising students about the exam and ensuring conditions for the exam to take place safely.
With the efforts of teachers to impart knowledge and the careful preparation of the education sector in organizing the exam, candidates in the province will confidently and firmly enter the upcoming 10th grade exam.
