Vietnam's population will reach 100 million people by mid-April 2023

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment), as of 0:00 on April 1, 2022, Vietnam's population reached 99.2 million people. With the average population growth rate observed in recent years, it is forecasted that by mid-April 2023, Vietnam will officially become one of 15 countries in the world and one of 3 countries in Southeast Asia with a population of 100 million people.

According to the report of the Ministry of Planning and Investment sent to the Prime Minister, the event to welcome the 100 millionth citizen is expected to take place on April 19 or 25. The welcoming ceremony includes 3 main activities: Rally to welcome the 100 millionth citizen of Vietnam; Ceremony to visit and give gifts to newborns who are the 100 millionth citizen; Ceremony to promote and parade 100 million footprints of Lac Hong descendants in Hanoi with the participation of a large number of people in the capital. The Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Health and the Hanoi People's Committee will preside over these activities.
