Overview of the meeting to evaluate and rank national OCOP products in 2024 for 02 product groups: Beverage group and Medicinal herbs and products from medicinal herbs.

According to the report of the Central Office for New Rural Area Coordination, as of December 31, 2022, the Central Office for New Rural Area Coordination received 120 applications for assessment and classification of OCOP products from provinces and cities, including: 85 applications belonging to the food group; 17 applications belonging to the handicraft product group; 16 products belonging to the medicinal herbs and medicinal herb products group; 02 products belonging to the beverage group.

In 2023, the assessment of 47 products was completed and 22 OCOP products were recognized as national products. In 2024, the assessment of 55 food products was completed and 4 OCOP products were recognized as national products.

On the afternoon of November 5, the National OCOP Council will review and evaluate the remaining 18 products, including: 02 Beverage products (assessed and evaluated by Advisory Group No. 02) and 16 products in the group of Medicinal herbs and products from medicinal herbs (assessed and evaluated by Advisory Group No. 3).

The OCOP program has so far contributed to creating gender equality in the economy and production, helping rural women have stable livelihoods while strongly transforming the agricultural, farmer and rural economy, including rural tourism, and local cultural identity is also improving.

At the meeting, Mr. Ngo Truong Son, Chief of the Central Office for New Rural Area Coordination, reported a summary of the results of the review of the dossier requesting assessment and classification of national OCOP products in 2024. Based on the results of Advisory Group 02: 2 products Yen Tu Plum Wine of Thang Long Production, Service and Trade Company Limited, Quang Ninh province and Quang Hanh Natural Mineral Water with added gas of Quang Hanh Trade Union Mineral Water Company Limited, Quang Ninh province did not meet the criteria for recognition as national 5-star OCOP products.

Results of appraisal and evaluation of dossiers by Advisory Group No. 03. Advisory Group No. 03 evaluated 16 dossiers, resulting in 05 products scoring over 90 points, meeting the conditions for consideration and recognition as national OCOP products, including: Vicumax limited Nano Curcumin health protection food product, Vicumax Nano Curcumin health protection food product, Vicumax honey Nano Curcumin health protection food product of Bac Ha Pharmaceutical Technology Joint Stock Company, Bac Kan province and 2 products of Traphaco Sa Pa One Member Co., Ltd., Lao Cai province: Health protection food product Artichoke Sapa Mist Tea, Health protection food product Artichoke Sapa Soft Extract. Recognized as national 5-star OCOP products. The remaining 11 products do not meet the conditions for recognition as national OCOP products in 2024.

After discussion, exchange and voting, the Central OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council in 2024 decided to recognize the above 5 products as achieving national OCOP certification in the group of Medicinal herbs and products from medicinal herbs.

During the meeting, the Council reviewed and re-recognized the National OCOP products recognized in 2020, including 03 re-recognized products: Bich Thao pure ground coffee of Bich Thao Coffee Cooperative, Son La city, Son La province. Two tea products including: 100g green tea and 100g black tea of Phin Ho Tea Processing Cooperative, Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province. At the end of the discussion with the subjects, the Council discussed and unanimously voted to re-recognize 03 national OCOP products eligible for recognition as national OCOP products in 2024.

As the owner of 3 OCOP products participating in the 2024 "5-star" rating assessment, Ms. Hanh Le - Director of Bac Ha Pharmaceutical Technology Joint Stock Company, excitedly said: I am very pleased to present to the Rating Council, the Central Advisory Group on the production process of the health protection product Vicumax limited Nano Curcumin with turmeric extract. When the product is recognized as a 5-star OCOP at the National level, I am very happy and that will be the motivation for my company to produce more products, have strengths and enhance the company's role and position in the production of safe products, protecting the health of consumers.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam read the results of recognition of 5 products achieving national OCOP certification in the group of Medicinal herbs and products from medicinal herbs.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam, Chairman of the Council, through the assessment and appraisal work, it can be seen that OCOP subjects have increasingly focused on improving the quality as well as diversifying the designs of products. That is a good thing that the Council has encouraged subjects to do in the past time. However, there are still some issues that subjects need to pay attention to: Typically, the products that have been assessed and evaluated have not yet clearly demonstrated the unique features of OCOP products that are closely linked to local characteristics, community criteria, community representation, benefits for the community... are relatively weak compared to the purpose of the OCOP Program. OCOP subjects need to pay more attention to raw material areas, because the products are all local specialties, so they need to ensure national criteria and export criteria.
