Dong Hoi City: Proposed solutions to protect the Hai Thanh-Quang Phu sea dike

(QBĐT) - On June 17, Dong Hoi City coordinated with the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and the National Key Laboratory to organize a scientific workshop: "Assessing the current status and causes of erosion of the Hai Thanh-Quang Phu sea dike and orienting protection solutions".

The workshop aimed to analyze the causes of the incident, from objective factors such as climate change, complex natural erosion laws, to possible subjective problems in the survey, design and construction process; propose feasible and synchronous solutions, not only to overcome the immediate incident but also to orient a long-term, sustainable and climate change-adaptive coastal protection strategy.

Accordingly, the Hai Thanh-Quang Phu sea embankment is a strategic project, built with the expectation of effectively responding to erosion, protecting the safety of people's lives and property, as well as essential infrastructure and coastal tourism potential of Dong Hoi City.

However, in reality, after only a short period of operation, the project has continuously suffered serious damage after the historic storm at the end of 2020 and the storms in 2022 and 2023. Despite repair efforts, the sustainable stability of the embankment is still a major concern for the city's leaders and people.

Experts focused on analyzing and evaluating changes in the coastline and the causes and dynamics of erosion of the Hai Thanh-Quang Phu sea dyke; at the same time, representatives of departments, branches, and consulting units discussed, recommended, and proposed plans and solutions to protect the above dykes.
