The attack and rape occurred at around 11:40 a.m. on August 17 (Korean time) in a deserted hillside area in a park in Gwanaksan district.
The Korea Herald described the male suspect, about 30 years old, using a "bear fist" to attack a female victim of the same age, before brutally raping her.
The "bear fist" is a weapon made of bronze or other metal, thousands of years ago Greek gladiators wore on their hands when fighting each other. It now often appears in movies about mafia or gangsters.
"The suspect and the victim do not appear to know each other. The victim remains unconscious and is in critical condition in the hospital," the Korea Herald reported.

Several witnesses jogging near the scene said they heard the victim's screams and called the police, who arrested the suspect at around 12:10 p.m. the same day.
The suspect, who lives in Doksan-dong, southwest of Seoul, initially said the victim "tripped over a tree branch" but later confessed to the crime.
There were not many people at the scene of the attack. The suspect said he "chose the crime location" in Sillim-dong because there were no surveillance cameras there.
Police suspect the suspect may have planned the crime, including searching for a target. "The suspect appears to have consumed alcohol and drugs before committing the crime," a Seoul police source said, adding that he is facing charges of evading military service.
Other information, including medical records and information on a cell phone seized from the suspect, has not yet been released by police.
Notably, this "bear fist" attack before rape occurred right next to the scene of the knife attack near Sillim-dong subway station last July.
In this incident, the man stabbed 3 people, injuring them all, all of whom were men between 20 and 30 years old.
