This special auction is an event within the program to promote and consume custard apples and OCOP products, organized by the People's Committee of Chi Lang District (Lang Son) on the morning of August 19.
At the event, the People's Committee of Chi Lang District selected 8 of the largest and most beautiful custard apples grown in gardens in the district to auction, raising funds to build houses for the poor and help localities build bridges.
The highest auction price for custard apple is 220 million VND.
Speaking with Thanh Nien , Mr. Vi Nong Truong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chi Lang District, said that the custard apple auction program was more successful than expected, attracting a large number of tourists and business representatives to participate.
After 3 auctions on the morning of August 19, 8 custard apples were purchased for a total of 770 million VND. Of which, the lowest price was 20 million VND and the highest price was up to 220 million VND.
According to Mr. Vi Nong Truong, Chi Lang district currently has an area of up to 2,500 hectares of custard apples, concentrated in the communes of Chi Lang, Van Linh, Hoa Binh, Mai Sao, Y Tich, Thuong Cuong, Dong Mo town and Chi Lang town; the annual yield of custard apples is about 22,000 tons. Custard apple trees are helping farmers earn an income of 600 - 700 billion VND/year. Thanks to custard apple growing, many families in Chi Lang district have escaped poverty and are earning hundreds of millions of VND each year.
The custard apple auction program was held to raise funds to build bridges and houses for the poor in Chi Lang district.
"The custard apple auction is held annually to promote the Chi Lang custard apple brand, connecting custard apple consumption and local agricultural products. We are building and determined to make custard apple a key fruit with the highest economic value in the group of local agricultural products," said Mr. Truong.
According to the People's Committee of Chi Lang District, all proceeds from the custard apple auction will be used to build 6 bridges and 2 houses for 2 students in especially difficult circumstances.
