The report at the workshop showed that the AWD model implemented in 2025 has brought about many remarkable results. The application of the alternating wet-dry irrigation process helps rice fields grow stably, increasing productivity from 4.6% to 8.6% compared to traditional flooding irrigation; in many localities, the actual yield reached from 5 to 5.8 tons/ha. In addition, the number of irrigation times is reduced by an average of 1.4 times/crop, contributing to significant savings in irrigation water.
Notably, measurements in the two pilot areas showed a sharp reduction in methane emissions, from 45% to over 66% depending on the crop. In total, by 2025, the entire project area had reduced CH₄ by more than 54%, equivalent to 8,277 tCO₂e, creating an important basis for developing carbon credits in rice production.

At the workshop, delegates unanimously assessed that the AWD model is suitable for farming conditions in Quang Tri, helping to improve economic efficiency, reduce emissions and gradually change farmers' production habits.
In the period of 2026 - 2035, Quang Tri province aims to continue to improve the scientific basis and expand the scale of implementation; by 2035, it strives to have about 30,000 hectares of rice applying the alternating flooding and drying technology. Activities such as surveying the implementation area, technical training, emission assessment experiments and crop-by-crop assessment workshops will be carried out continuously from the end of 2025.
The expansion of AWD technology is expected to help Quang Tri be more proactive in adapting to climate change, reducing production costs and moving towards sustainable, low-emission agriculture .
