Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Director of the Academy of Finance, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Manh Thieu, affirmed that AI, with its ability to process natural language, analyze big data and support decision-making, is gradually becoming a strategic tool in innovating teaching and learning methods, especially in the field of foreign language teaching.
In that context, organizing the workshop is a step to implement Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW on innovation in higher education and digital transformation in education, demonstrating the determination of the Academy of Finance to become a pioneer in applying AI in teaching foreign languages and developing digital capacity for learners.
At the workshop, speakers and delegates focused their discussions on the following topics: Application of AI in teaching and assessing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; Impact of AI on the role of lecturers and learners in the digital environment; Development of digital capacity and professional ethics when using AI in learning; Innovation of foreign language teaching programs and methods towards personalization; Solutions to improve the quality of foreign language teaching in the context of digital transformation; and Experiences, models and practical lessons from inside and outside the academy.
In his presentation, Associate Professor Jonathan Newton, Victoria University (New Zealand) pointed out changes to language teaching in the AI era, especially in writing skills. According to Associate Professor Jonathan Newton, factors that can be easily supported by tools like Grammarly, for example, grammar and vocabulary will no longer be the focus, instead, teachers will focus on content and communication skills.
Lecturers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Academy of Finance also shared about Coze, an AI chatbot development platform applied in learning English for specialized purposes and said that this tool plays a useful role in supporting students in learning specialized English and has a clear improvement in students' test scores.

At the discussion session on AI application in foreign language teaching at university level, delegates said that the use of AI in learning is necessary but must have clear limits and regulations. In the context of strong development of AI technology, education, especially English teaching, is entering a new transition period, requiring training institutions to issue specific policies and rules to guide the application of AI, helping lecturers and students clearly understand the expectations and limits in the process of use. The effective and ethical integration of AI in education, especially in language teaching, needs to be approached comprehensively and multi-dimensionally.
Faced with the reality that AI is increasingly popular, even causing a feeling of "addiction" or fear of "being left behind", speakers proposed building clear policies at the educational institution level; implementing regular training programs for lecturers on digital capacity, understanding and ethics of AI; at the same time ensuring transparency, carefully considering ethical factors when applying AI, aiming to innovate methods and personalize the foreign language teaching and learning process in the digital transformation period.
The 2025 conference continues the success of previous conferences, attracting a large number of scientists, lecturers, experts, students and practitioners inside and outside the Academy of Finance. The submitted papers demonstrate serious investment, learning spirit and desire for innovation in applying AI to teaching and learning foreign languages at university level.
The selected works published in the Conference Proceedings demonstrate a multi-dimensional approach, linking theory with practice, and at the same time providing many models and feasible solutions to improve the effectiveness of AI application in foreign language teaching. The research results are not only valuable to the Academy of Finance but also contribute to the scientific basis for the implementation of AI in foreign language teaching at Vietnamese higher education institutions.
The workshop is also a forum for scientists and lecturers to exchange experiences, spread the spirit of innovation in teaching and learning, promote research cooperation and develop modern training models, aiming to build the Academy of Finance into a pioneer in applying AI to serve training and scientific research.
With rich, multi-dimensional and highly applicable content, the Workshop provides many practical directions and solutions to improve the quality of foreign language teaching, develop digital capacity and self-study capacity for students, contributing to the effective implementation of the digital transformation strategy in Vietnamese higher education.
