Having just moved into a brand new house from the program to eliminate leaky and temporary houses, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (Co Tu ethnic group, Gian Bi village, Hoa Bac commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city) emotionally shared that her family is a poor household, her husband has had degenerative spine disease for many years and cannot work, the burden is on her shoulders. She alone has to take care of the economy , take care of her husband and raise two small children. For many years, the whole family has lived in a temporary house, leaky and hot in the rain.
Implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the Hoa Vang district government supported Nguyen Thi Nga's family with 80 million VND, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Bac commune mobilized an additional 20 million VND, and people and organizations joined hands to contribute labor and effort. Thanks to that, the new solid house of nearly 100 square meters was completed. "With the support of the new house, I feel like I have more motivation to live, to continue working, to take care of my family, and to give my children a full education," Nguyen Thi Nga emotionally said.
Ms. Nga's family is one of 14 poor households supported to build houses in the program to eliminate 21 temporary, dilapidated houses in Hoa Bac commune - the most difficult area in Da Nang , where 3% of households are still poor, with 265 Co Tu households.
Mr. Thai Van Hoai Nam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District, said that to implement the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, in addition to the budget, the locality mobilized additional resources to help people build solid houses. To date, the commune has completed the construction of 14 houses, 2 houses are under construction and the remaining 5 houses will be completed before August 30.
"We flexibly integrate many programs, promote socialization and mobilize people to contribute working days. Thanks to that, the construction progress is accelerated. People are very excited because they have the opportunity to rebuild their roofs to feel more secure during the rainy and stormy season," said Mr. Nam.

According to Da Nang statistics, the total number of temporary and dilapidated houses that need to be resolved in the 2024 - 2025 period in the city is 2,002 houses, including 367 new houses and 1,635 houses repaired. In 2024, the city completed 903 houses, and the plan is to complete 1,099 houses in 2025.
To date, the locality has started construction of 929 houses, and has completed construction of 774 houses (reaching 70.4% of the 2025 plan), while 170 houses have not yet started construction.
Ms. Tran Thi Man, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City, said that the city aims to complete the program of eliminating temporary housing for poor households before September 2.
"This is a key emulation movement in 2025 following the call of the Prime Minister . The city is making efforts to mobilize resources and allocate funds reasonably. Up to now, the allocation for poor and near-poor households has been completed, and some localities are implementing construction or carrying out procedures to repair and build new houses for people," Ms. Tran Thi Man informed.
