On the morning of June 11th, after the completion of the Mathematics exam, candidates taking the entrance exam for non-specialized public high schools in Hanoi finished this year's 10th grade entrance exam. The Mathematics exam was considered slightly more difficult than in the 2022-2023 academic year, with good differentiation among candidates.
According to the exam questions, the structure of the Math subject did not surprise the candidates. Having thoroughly reviewed the knowledge content and question types, many candidates were pleased with their performance.
At the exam center at Phan Dinh Phung High School, Hoan Kiem district, Bao Van shared: “I feel like a weight has been lifted after finishing the last subject of the exam. Today's exam was similar to the one I reviewed last night, so it wasn't too difficult to pass. I estimate I'll get 9 points if I get question c of the geometry section right.”
| Candidates were pleased because the exam questions were familiar. |
“I found the exam quite easy. The scope of math knowledge covered the curriculum. Over 80% of the questions were basic knowledge, including recognition, comprehension, and application at a normal level. High-level application questions accounted for about 7-8%. Students with good math skills should have no difficulty achieving 8 points,” commented Pham Tien Manh, a candidate at the Nguyen Du Secondary School exam center in Hoan Kiem district.
Commenting on the 10th grade entrance exam in Mathematics, some teachers believe that the exam from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training maintained a stable structure compared to recent years. The exam structure still includes 5 major problems, each with many smaller parts arranged in order from easy to difficult, using familiar problem types to avoid confusion and surprise for candidates. On the other hand, the exam showed a slight increase in difficulty compared to the 2022-2023 exam, providing good differentiation among candidates.

Mr. Hong Tri Quang, a mathematics teacher at the Hocmai Education System, commented: With this exam paper, the average score for candidates is expected to be around 6-7 points.
Specifically, question 1 is a familiar type of question and does not pose any difficulty for candidates. Question 2 maintains the same level of difficulty and question type. The first part is a problem solved by setting up equations or systems of equations with real-world elements. Candidates need to be able to analyze the problem, select keywords and key data to solve it. The second part is a question related to spatial geometry; candidates only need to apply the correct formula to find the answer.
Lesson 3 consists of familiar problem types with a slight increase in difficulty (part 2b). The problem structure is similar to recent years, including questions on solving systems of equations that can be reduced to linear form and questions on the intersection of the graphs of two functions, with part 2b requiring candidates to be quick in the transformation process and flexibly apply Vieta's theorem to solve it.
Question 4 is similar to previous years' exams; it's a geometry problem, and the question types are all familiar ones, such as proving that a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle, proving equal angles, proving equalities, and proving parallelism. Part c of the problem remains a difficult question, designed to differentiate between candidates.
Question 5 is still about inequalities and is a question designed to differentiate candidates. The difficulty level increases, and to solve this problem, candidates need to flexibly apply skills in transforming inequalities and appropriately and at the right time using the given data.
| Parents were also happy when the exams were over. |
Thus, over three exam sessions, approximately 115,000 Hanoi students have completed the entrance exam for 10th grade in non-specialized public high schools for the 2023-2024 academic year.
During the exam days, the well-prepared facilities, well-ventilated and cool examination rooms, gentle and meticulous guidance from invigilators, and the attentive and dedicated service from support forces (police, volunteers, etc.) left a positive impression on both candidates and parents.
