Does the exam on folk games make it 'difficult' for Nghe An candidates?

TPO - This year's Literature exam in Nghe An mentioned the role of the young generation in preserving folk cultural values, a rather new topic for candidates.

After 120 minutes of taking the test, Nghe An candidates completed the Literature exam of the 10th grade entrance exam, school year 2025-2026.

The Literature exam consists of two parts: reading comprehension and writing. The reading part includes an excerpt from the work “On the Wings of a Dragonfly” and requires candidates to answer the requirements of the text.

Meanwhile, the writing section has 2 parts, in which the argumentative essay section requires analysis of the character Tung in the excerpt. In the social argumentative section, the topic is about folk games with strong Vietnamese cultural features that are being lost in modern life. Candidates are asked to discuss how folk games are passed down in today's life.

Candidates from Nghe An said that the test was quite long and they had to take advantage of the time to complete the entire test.

Bui Phuong Linh (a student at Le Loi Secondary School, Vinh City) shared that she was surprised when she read the Literature exam. Linh said that this year's exam was quite long and she used all her time to complete the exam. "The social argumentation question was very different from my previous predictions. This year is the year of many historical events such as the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, so I focused more on reviewing the topic of revolutionary traditions. However, the question was about preserving and maintaining folk games. This is also a question about traditional values, but specifically about folk games, it was quite surprising," Phuong Linh shared.

Many other candidates also agreed that the exam was “different” from the focus of their review. Thanh Binh (a student at Truong Thi Secondary School, Vinh City) said that although the reading comprehension was long, if you stick to the text and have a solid grasp of the basic knowledge, you can still do it. But with the writing, I found it a bit difficult. In the social discussion question, I found it a bit difficult with the “strange topic”. I mainly reviewed issues about youth, family affection, hometown, etc.

Literature teachers commented that the exam had reasonable differentiation, ensuringeducational and literary values. The questions in the exam encouraged students not only to memorize but also to understand and apply knowledge in practice.

Speaking about the 10th grade Literature exam this year, Ms. Vo Thi Phuong, a Literature teacher at Chau Dinh Secondary School, Quy Hop District, said that the exam was designed to closely follow the structure of the 2018 General Education Program and the review orientation of the Department of Education and Training. The exam is open-ended, using materials other than textbooks, contributing to a comprehensive assessment of the reading comprehension, writing skills and qualities of learners according to the requirements of the new program.

“The reading comprehension section tests students’ ability to read texts at a level that is appropriate for their ability, with differentiated questions. In the writing section, the social argumentation section guides students to preserve the beauty of traditional national values ​​in modern life. The level of the questions is appropriate for students’ actual abilities, ensuring that they are appropriate, differentiated, and suitable for developing students’ qualities and abilities,” said Ms. Phuong.

Nghe An Department of Education and Training quickly reports on the first subject (Literature), entrance exam for grade 10 of high school in the 2025-2026 school year: Total number of candidates registered for the exam: 39,133; total number of absent candidates: 41; number of candidates violating exam regulations: zero. The exam took place normally, safely and in accordance with regulations, without any other unusual incidents.
