The children's dream of studying in spacious schools, having enough food and sleeping warmly in dormitories has appeared like a fairy tale.
The teachers were also extremely happy because they would have a school with all the facilities like in the lowlands - classrooms, library, computer room, sports field, cafeteria, clean water, public housing and even standard toilets.
There is a school like that that every child wants to go to because there they see "every school day is a happy day" and their parents can work in the fields with peace of mind without worrying anymore.
In 2000, I visited the two border posts of Lung Cu and Bat Xat with other veterans. The two station commanders had the same thoughts: how to improve the lives of the people in the border areas; how to provide children with a good education and upbringing.
How to get children to go to school and then return to build their homeland; how to get teachers and cadres from the lowlands to settle in the villages and "take root" for a long time.
Both of them affirmed that the people are the strongest wall protecting the border area.
These days, I am sure that the border guards are as happy as the people, because among the students of these new schools, many will become cadres and border officers who firmly hold their guns to protect the fence of the Fatherland, behind which more than 100 million people are dedicated to production, creativity and development.
To transform a remote area or a desert into a vibrant one, it is necessary to create development focal points. It could be an industrial park, an urban area or a mining plant.
Some countries near us choose to develop border urban areas with commercial centers, chains of consumer goods factories, and bustling border markets; some choose to develop casinos and vibrant entertainment and service centers.

We choose educational points as the starting point for development. Then 100 boarding schools will become 100 cultural, social and economic points.
When it becomes a development highlight, it will generate services such as tourism, education, healthcare, construction and attract people from the lowlands.
This will lead to the development of the transportation system (road, railway, aviation), communications, electric power and of course will attract many private enterprises to invest.
The picture of the border region will certainly no longer have dark, dull, cold colors; no longer will there be scenes of teachers struggling in the mud to get to school, no longer will there be having to go to each house to persuade children to go to school...
The will of the State and the wishes of the people were portrayed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Yen Khuong Commune Primary and Secondary Boarding School (Thanh Hoa) that "this is not only an investment in education, but also an investment in the future and sustainable development of the border area of the Fatherland".
The whole country needs to join hands to develop the border areas so that the Fatherland's fence becomes the most livable place. Only then will our country "be forever steadfast", as King Tran Thai Tong said.
