The People's Committee of Lang Son province has just submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction to consider adding the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway planning to the Road Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
This is an expressway belonging to the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen - Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway axis, code CT.15, with a total length of about 355 km, of which the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang section of 165 km has been included in the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
The Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway starts at the intersection with the CT.10 expressway (Dong Dang - Tra Linh section) in Lang Son province; the end point intersects with the CT.07 expressway (Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan section) in Thai Nguyen province.
The total length of the route is about 120 km, of which the section through Lang Son province is about 70 km long; the section through Thai Nguyen province is about 50 km long. The route passes through the districts of Van Lang, Van Quan, Binh Gia and Bac Son (Lang Son province) and the districts of Vo Nhai and Phu Luong (Thai Nguyen province).
Lang Son - Thai Nguyen Expressway has a scale of 4 lanes, designed speed of 100 km/h (the section passing through the rocky mountainous area with difficult terrain in Binh Gia and Bac Son districts, about 20 km long, has a designed speed of 80 km/h) with a roadbed width of 22 m - 24.75 m.
The total investment for the entire Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway is expected to be about VND29,000 billion, of which the investment cost for the section through Lang Son province is about VND18,000 billion; the investment cost for the section through Thai Nguyen province is about VND11,000 billion.
Lang Son Provincial People's Committee plans to invest in the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway in the 2026 - 2030 period, using medium-term public investment capital for the 2026 - 2030 period and other legal capital sources.
When completed, the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway will contribute to forming a strategic traffic axis connecting the Lang Son border gate area with the Thai Nguyen industrial center and the Northwestern provinces, creating momentum for the development of industrial parks, clusters, logistics centers and urban areas along the route corridor.
The project also directly reduces the load on National Highway 1B, shortens the travel time from Thai Nguyen to Lang Son province's border gate by about 30 km and from Bac Son to Lang Son city by about 15 km, helping to improve the transport capacity and circulation of goods between provinces in the region, promoting border trade and import and export between Vietnam and China.
