Completing traffic infrastructure in border gate areas
According to the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, Xa Mat International Border Gate is one of the two key border gates of Tay Ninh, playing a particularly important role in the trade of goods, tourism and border cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia. In the context of developing the East-West economic corridor and the Go Dau - Xa Mat expressway, investing in completing the traffic infrastructure connecting the border gate area has become an urgent requirement to complete the traffic axis in the Xa Mat Border Gate Economic Zone according to the approved plan.
The project aims to synchronously connect National Highway 22B, National Highway 14C and Go Dau – Xa Mat Expressway, creating favorable conditions for the development of logistics service areas, trade, residential areas and border urban areas; at the same time, enhancing the capacity of goods transportation, contributing to ensuring security, defense and order in border areas.
The project's objective is to complete the main traffic infrastructure in the Xa Mat Border Gate Economic Zone, forming a synchronous traffic route connecting the Xa Mat International Border Gate with planned functional areas such as service areas, industrial zones, residential areas and logistics areas. Thereby, creating a foundation for the formation of a modern, civilized, green and sustainable border gate urban area.
According to the proposal, the project "Developing traffic infrastructure connecting Xa Mat border gate to 2030" will build two new main traffic routes N1 and D3, which are the central axis routes in Xa Mat border gate economic zone, connecting directly from the border gate area to functional areas of services, trade, logistics and residential areas. The total length is about 3.57km, the land use area is about 20.9ha (will be specifically determined at the stage of preparing the feasibility study report).
When completed, the routes will form a closed traffic network, connecting the border gate area, administrative-commercial center and logistics service area, ensuring the smooth, safe and efficient circulation of goods, vehicles and passengers.
Creating momentum for economic development in border areas
According to the proposed report of the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, the total investment of the project is expected to be nearly 200 billion VND, including compensation, site clearance, construction, consulting and reserve costs. The capital for implementation is expected to be arranged from the local budget, mainly using the revenue from fees for using infrastructure works of the border economic zone according to Resolution No. 188/NQ-HDND, dated September 25, 2024 of the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Council.
The project is divided into two phases: preparation phase (2025-2026) to establish, appraise and approve the project, organize compensation and site clearance; implementation phase (2027-2030) to construct construction items and complete synchronous technical infrastructure.
According to the assessment, if the project is implemented and put into operation, it will form a strategic traffic axis connecting Xa Mat border gate with foreign traffic routes, directly serving the import and export of goods, transportation and border tourism ; at the same time, creating a foundation for the development of border trade economy, logistics, trade and services, reducing transportation costs, and improving competitiveness for businesses.
Not only does it have economic significance, the project also contributes to ensuring security, national defense, and order in the border area, promoting population stability, and improving the material and spiritual life of people in the border gate area. This is also a concrete step in the roadmap to build Xa Mat into a model, modern, and sustainable border city, linking economic development with firmly protecting national territorial sovereignty.
The Provincial Economic Zone Management Board affirmed that the project is consistent with the Urban Zoning Plan of Xa Mat Border Gate Economic Zone and the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030. At the same time, it meets current legal regulations on public investment, construction and bidding./.
