Proposing solutions to implement gender equality in ethnic minority areas for the period 2026-2030

On the morning of May 31, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union held a consultation workshop to contribute ideas to finalize the proposed content and solutions of Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" phase 2, from 2026-2030.

Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Minh Huong said: Project 8 is one of 10 projects under the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period, assigned to the Vietnam Women's Union to take the lead in implementing with the goal of raising awareness, changing gender stereotypes, caring for material and spiritual life, protecting and caring for women and children, and achieving gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

After 5 years of implementation, Project 8 has basically completed 4 key contents, contributing to eliminating gender prejudices and stereotypes, harmful cultural practices and some urgent social issues for women and children; building and replicating models of changing "thinking and doing" to enhance women's economic empowerment; promoting gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children.

With the viewpoint of "mainstreaming and ensuring gender equality in the process of developing and organizing the implementation of the Project" and implementing the general goal of "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" in the period of 2021-2030, the Vietnam Women's Union continues to propose contents and solutions to implement the goal of gender equality and focus on effectively solving a number of urgent social issues for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the new context.

"The delegates' comments will help the Association have a basis to complete the proposed contents and solutions and identify gender issues that need attention in Project 8 and in the components of the Program for the period 2026-2030," Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong affirmed.

At the workshop, delegates focused on clarifying the proposed contents of Project 8 for the 2026-2030 period and suggesting new issues that need attention; recommending specific contents and solutions to integrate gender into projects and contents of the Program for the 2026-2030 period.

Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Disabled Persons Nguyen Thi Lan Anh shared about the current situation and solutions to support livelihoods and enhance capacity for women with disabilities in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; Dr. Pham Thai Hung, policy consultant, recommended some contents and solutions to integrate gender in the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, 2026-2030 period.

Experts, researchers, and Women's Unions of several provinces and cities also provided additional theoretical and practical information, suggesting gender issues in areas that need attention in the 2026-2030 Program, such as: Familyeducation , parenting education; support for access to and use of clean water and sanitation; livelihood support and capacity building for women with disabilities in ethnic minority and mountainous areas...

Previously, on May 27, in Hue city, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union organized a consultation workshop with 30 provinces and cities in the Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions to collect diverse opinions from many perspectives and regions nationwide.
