Corinthians are mired in massive debt, forcing them to consider cost-cutting measures to stay afloat. This includes saving around €40,000 per month, the amount the club has to spend on Depay's accommodation and other benefits included in his contract.
According to TNT Sports , since joining Corinthians in 2024, Depay has been provided accommodation in a luxury hotel in Sao Paulo by the club, at a cost of up to 40,000 euros per month. The service package includes room service, laundry, a private driver, and 24/7 reception. To date, Corinthians has spent over 405,000 euros on accommodation alone for the Dutch star.
Despite earning a salary of 11 million euros per year (which could increase to 19 million euros including bonuses), Depay reportedly offered to give up this benefit after realizing the team's precarious financial situation.
Previously, the former Barcelona star was involved in a dispute with Corinthians' management in early 2025 over an unpaid debt of nearly 1 million euros. However, the two sides later successfully reached a settlement.
Corinthians are burdened with a debt of 500 million euros, one of the highest in the club's history. Therefore, maintaining the expenses for Depay is unsustainable in the long run.
Since the start of the season, Depay has scored 9 goals and provided 10 assists in 44 matches, becoming a key player for the Brazilian team.
