COVID-19 epidemic today: 2,804 new infections

Regarding the COVID-19 epidemic situation today , the Ministry of Health said that from 4:00 p.m. on May 5 to 4:00 p.m. on May 6, the whole country recorded 2,804 cases, a decrease compared to the number of cases the previous day.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has had 11,573,931 infections, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories, while with the rate of infections per 1 million people, Vietnam ranks 120th out of 231 countries and territories (on average, there are 116,963 infections per 1 million people).

During the day, 686 patients were declared cured, bringing the total number of cured cases to 10,626,524. The number of patients receiving oxygen is 141, down from yesterday, of which 33 are on invasive ventilators.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,196, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections.

Total deaths ranked 26th/231 territories, deaths per 1 million people ranked 141st/231 countries and territories in the world .

On May 5, 5,008 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were injected. Thus, the total number of doses of vaccine injected is 266,271,596 doses.

Regarding the WHO's declaration that COVID-19 is no longer a global health emergency, in the information sent to the press on the morning of May 6 by the Ministry of Health, Dr. Angela Pratt, WHO Representative in Vietnam, stated: The end of the public health emergency of international concern caused by COVID-19 is always welcome news.

For Vietnam, this is a moment to reflect on the country’s incredibly strong overall response to the virus. But at the same time, it is important to understand that this is not the time to let our guard down.

COVID-19 will continue to be a threat; this announcement is really an announcement of the need to accelerate and plan for long-term management of the virus.
