The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi, in coordination with Vietnamese agencies and friendship organizations, organized this meaningful event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the 71st anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2025) of the Vietnamese people, and the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union/Russian Federation people (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2025).

Attending the ceremony were Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Prof. Bezdetko, Belarusian Ambassador to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou, representatives of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, Vietnamese ministries and departments, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association, former Vietnamese students, veterans, Vietnamese, Russian and Belarusian students.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Professor Bezdetko emphasized that the “Immortal Regiment” parade has become a tradition both in Russia and around the world , in memory of the participants of the Great Patriotic War - the frontline soldiers, guerrillas and those working in the rear, who made the victory possible.

“They were the ones who suffered the heaviest blows from the fascist forces and paid a high price for the long-awaited victory – 27 million lives... In the countries of the former Soviet Union, the war did not spare a single family, leaving an indelible memory in the fate of every person,” Ambassador Professor Bezdetko affirmed.

In addition, the Russian diplomat recalled the Vietnamese volunteers who fought side by side with Soviet soldiers in 1941-1945. "Their names are remembered in the memorial list of the Memory Lane Museum in Patriot Park near Moscow. To commemorate the Vietnamese soldiers, a monument was erected on the grounds of the complex, depicting them in the uniform of the Red Army of the Soviet Union".

The event is also an opportunity for "us to remember the heroes of the Vietnamese national liberation movement, who liberated South Vietnam 50 years ago and ensured the country's unification," Ambassador Professor Bezdetko further emphasized.

According to the Russian Ambassador, the victory in 1975 fundamentally changed the world map, opening a new page in human history; it is important not to forget the lessons of the past, “as long as we remember the events of those distant years, we still have hope that similar tragedies will not repeat themselves”.

Sharing the same view, Belarusian Ambassador Uladzimir Baravikou said that history must be cherished. “The truth is that the Soviet people made a decisive contribution to the defeat of the fascists! It was Soviet soldiers who liberated Prague, Vienna, Budapest and occupied Berlin!”, the Ambassador stated.

Lieutenant General Le Quang Bon, Principal of the Fire Prevention and Fighting University, said that this is not only a cultural activity but also an opportunity to remember and pay tribute to those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

This event demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, contributing to strengthening the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in the context of the two countries celebrating many important historical milestones. 2025 also marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

Within the framework of the "Immortal Legion" parade, many activities took place such as a photo exhibition on the theme of the Great Patriotic War, tree planting to preserve memories and music programs to celebrate major holidays of the people of the two countries.
