At the graduation ceremony this morning (November 8), the University of Water Resources awarded the "Le Van Kiem and family" scholarships to 7 excellent students, 32 poor students who overcame difficulties; awarded 6 "Lighting up the faith" scholarships and especially awarded a savings book of more than 52 million VND to the "tiny girl" Nguyen Thi Phuong.

Phuong was also specially accepted to work at the school's Information Technology Center right after graduating last August.
Nguyen Thi Phuong was born on October 3, 2002 in Kim Son, Ninh Binh . She is the character Dan Tri published with an inspirational story as the most special student among 1,541 full-time graduates in 2025 of the University of Water Resources. After more than 2 months of being published in the press and on social networks, readers have supported Phuong with more than 52 million VND.
Orphaned, with poor health and a height of only 1.08m - equal to that of a kindergarten student - Nguyen Thi Phuong still graduated from university with honors, with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.39/4.0.
Phuong said she was very touched and grateful for the affection everyone had shown her. "With this savings book, plus my monthly salary, I hope life will be less burdensome," Phuong emotionally shared.
Knowing that Phuong’s parents had both passed away, when she entered her first year, some benefactors supported her to go to school. Besides, with two scholarships, she spent frugally for 4 years of university.
I am exempted from 100% tuition fees and am a special case to date, having been awarded the Le Van Kiem scholarship twice (this scholarship is usually only awarded once per student during the 4 years of study).
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Phuong said that at the beginning of 10th grade, because she had not yet determined her own direction, she focused on block C and won second prize at the provincial level in geography at the beginning of 12th grade.
But also during this time, Phuong suddenly "changed direction" to the Information Technology (IT) industry.
I live in the school dormitory. My aunt and uncle bought me a computer. To save money, I skip breakfast. I only eat lunch and dinner when I am really hungry. From food, books, clothes to all expenses, Phuong has to budget around 2 million per month.
At the graduation ceremony in August, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet, the school's principal, said Phuong is a shining example of perseverance in studying.
