No more worries about selling cows
On the morning of August 27, we met An again when she was engrossed in her computer doing admission procedures, guiding her through the steps to create a student account at the National Economics University (Hanoi).
Outside in the yard, taking advantage of the rising sun, Mrs. Chu Thi Thuy - An's mother - hurriedly spread out the sacks of newly harvested rice. With the new rice, Mrs. Thuy took it to the local rice mill to pack it in time for her son to take to the capital.
"An will have to rent a place to stay in a few days when he starts school. He has many things to worry about. Studying far from home is expensive, so I told him to save money," said Mrs. Thuy.
Ms. Thuy shared that even in her dreams she never thought her family would receive so much sympathy from the community - Photo: DOAN HOA
Ms. Thuy confided that even in her dreams, she never thought that after the article about her child's determination to overcome difficulties to go to school was published in Tuoi Tre newspaper and then shared on social networking platforms, it would receive so much sympathy from everyone.
"In the past few days, I have been busy harvesting rice to avoid the storms and rains. I don't know anything about social media, but I have heard many friends and relatives calling to ask about me. There are also strangers who come to my house to give gifts to support and encourage my children to go to school," Ms. Thuy was moved.
Having received a sponsorship gift for her child's four years of university from a business, Ms. Thuy said she no longer has to worry about selling her only cow to pay for her child's tuition.
"The cow is the family's biggest asset. Now that my grandchild has money for school, I won't sell the cow anymore, but will use it to make a living and raise my children.
I also advise my child to try to study well, to start a career in the future so as not to disappoint the kindness of everyone who shared with him during difficult times, and if he has the opportunity in the future, he will come back to help friends in difficult circumstances like himself," Ms. Thuy shared.

"I learned about the Tuoi Tre newspaper's "Tie suc den truong" scholarship, which has helped tens of thousands of new students overcome difficulties over the past 21 years.
Article about An in Tuoi Tre newspaper I was very moved by An's determination.
I hope to contribute from the company's business profits to support An to be more confident in the upcoming journey. The company is also willing to create a job for An after graduation," Mr. Dung shared.
Receiving much spiritual and material encouragement, a smile returned to An's lips.
"After I am stable in school, I will find a part-time job to gain experience and earn extra money to cover living expenses. More importantly, I will study well, graduate from university and find a job so as not to let down everyone's sharing," An said.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Ha - Head of Political Affairs and Student Management Department, National Economics University - said that after learning about An's situation through Tuoi Tre newspaper and An's desire to enroll in National Economics University, the school contacted An to provide guidance and will provide scholarship support, free tuition for the first year, and dormitory accommodation...
