Dong Sua ritual carries the folk beliefs and cultural beauty of the Thai ethnic group in Yen Chau district (worshiping the sacred forest) to pray for favorable weather, bountiful crops, growth of all things, healthy people, and prosperous villages.
From early morning, the village elders and villagers were all present at the sacred forest of the village. Accompanied by the bustling sound of drums and gongs, the villagers cleared the forest, lit a fire, cooked sticky rice, slaughtered pigs and chickens, and prepared food for the shaman to perform the ceremony.
The ceremony includes a ceremony to worship the gods, the founders of the village, and a ceremony to worship the forest owner. Offerings include: pigs, chickens, wine, sticky rice, betel, areca nuts, and the sacred shirt of the forest owner. In addition, each household in the village brings a pair of silver bracelets, a roll of white cloth, or tight cloth... to perform the ceremony.
The Dong Sua ritual is not only an opportunity for people to express their gratitude to gods and ancestors, but also contributes to increasing community solidarity, demonstrating the unique spiritual culture of the Thai ethnic group in Sap Vat commune in particular and Yen Chau district in general.
