According to Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia , the National Conference on 50 years of Vietnamese literature and art after national reunification is one of the key and practical activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification.
The Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission stated that the Great Victory of Spring 1975 was one of the brilliant milestones in the history of building and defending the country of our people, a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, the pinnacle of Vietnamese spirit and intelligence, bringing our country into a new era, an era of peace and unity, leading the whole country to socialism. Literature and art and the team of artists played a great role and contributed to those great victories.
“Although time has passed, the values of our Party on culture, especially Ho Chi Minh 's thoughts on culture, still shine brightly. Culture lights the way for the nation. President Ho Chi Minh once advised: Culture and art are also a front/You are soldiers on that front . Former General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: Culture is the soul of the nation, as long as culture exists, the nation exists. This shows that, during the years of resistance, defending the Fatherland, building the country, implementing the renovation and international integration, artists are still soldiers on the cultural and ideological front of the Party”, the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission emphasized.
Entering the new era, our Party and State continue to pay deep attention to, focus on leading and directing the development of the fields of literature and art. Many Resolutions, Directives and Conclusions of the Party on the development of culture, literature and art have been issued and widely implemented, creating motivation for literature and art to continue to promote its role as a very important field, an essential need, expressing the human aspiration for truth, goodness and beauty.
Since the beginning of the 13th Congress term, the National Cultural Conference and many important conferences and forums on culture, literature and art have been successfully organized, contributing to strongly arousing the determination to build and develop advanced Vietnamese culture, literature and art imbued with national identity. Every year, the highest leaders of the Party and State always pay special attention, meet, and encourage the artists to constantly strive, innovate and create.
We have many policies and strategies related to culture. Recently, we have summarized Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated June 16, 2008 of the Politburo on continuing to build and develop literature and art in the new period; Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development; Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation. The National Assembly has approved the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the period 2025 - 2035...
It can be seen that, during the past 50 years, under the leadership of the Party, Vietnamese literature and art have developed strongly and achieved many important achievements, both in theoretical thinking and creative practice, dissemination methods and reception trends. However, the development of the country's literature and art has not been commensurate with its potential and is facing fierce challenges. That reality sets very high requirements, not only for summarizing 50 years of Vietnamese literature and art but also for making great efforts and determination to identify breakthrough goals, viewpoints, directions, tasks and solutions in the coming time.
The past 50 years of Vietnamese literature and art have been a continuation of the continuous flow of national literature and art. Affirming this, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia stated that in the 30 years of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, literature and art have fulfilled their noble mission, making important contributions to the overall victory of the entire nation. We are proud of the team of artists and soldiers who have overcome all difficulties, hardships and fierceness of war, devoting themselves to creating literature and art, worthy of the heroic history of our country, the peak of which is the Ho Chi Minh Campaign.
Continuing that precious traditional source, over the past 50 years, under the leadership of the Party, the steadfast innovation, creativity, and enthusiasm of the entire nation, with the core and pioneering team of intellectuals and artists, we are very proud to have a modern, unified literature and art, accepting the positive aspects and quintessence of the nation, of literature and art in all regions of the country and the quintessence of international culture, becoming a common literary and artistic period following the socialist orientation, in line with the people's will, clearly expressing the aspirations, will, spirit, and wishes of the people, for the cause of innovation and development of the country after the war.
Voice of gratitude, praise of patriotic and revolutionary traditions, voice of national harmony
Regarding the highlights of the past 50 years, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department Nguyen Trong Nghia pointed out that the country's literature and art have developed in the right direction, continuing to make important contributions to the revolutionary cause. Especially in recent years, we have carried out the renovation process, the team of artists has shown confidence in the Party's cultural and artistic guidelines, closely following the reality of life, having a strong desire for innovation, contributing a positive voice in many issues, especially cultural revival, human development, building and defending the Fatherland.
Having gone through the war, Vietnamese literature and art over the past 50 years have been a voice of gratitude and praise for the patriotic and revolutionary traditions of our army and people, and at the same time a voice of national harmony, contributing to healing and soothing the pain and loss of war, creating a new spirit and new strength for the nation. That seems simple, but it is one of the turning points of historical significance for the country and its literature and art, the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission affirmed.
Continuing the tradition of previous generations, the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission was pleased to see that over the past 50 years, new generations of creativity have emerged, bringing a new atmosphere to literary and artistic life. The themes of patriotism, revolutionary war and armed forces continue to be explored in new depth. The historical depth of human destiny during the great years of the nation's resistance has become a source of creative inspiration for many literary and artistic works.
Along with creation, theoretical research and literary and artistic criticism have achieved many positive results, contributing to a satisfactory assessment of the national literary and artistic heritage, a deeper explanation of some fundamental issues of theory and the laws of motion, new characteristics of practice, introducing to the public quality works, participating in discovering the good, supporting the new, and at the same time criticizing and fighting against deviant and erroneous trends of expression.
Over the past 50 years, the country's artists have always been a reliable force for the Party, the State and the People. The titles of "artist-soldier" and "artist-citizen" associated with social responsibility continue to be respected and promoted, becoming a cultural model containing a deep belief in the loyalty of the artists - the creators of Vietnamese literature and art.
We are pleased to have clear results in approaching and meeting with the progressive trends of world literature and art. New creations based on modern thinking have begun to appear and there have been valuable and respectful explorations. Literature and art have truly made an important contribution, creating the "soft power" of Vietnamese culture in the process of the country's innovation, integration and increasingly deep development towards the world.
Research and promulgate the National Strategy on building literature and art in the new era.
To continue its historical mission, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia requested that, first of all , it is necessary to focus on improving the Party's leadership capacity, associated with strong innovation in thinking, appropriate and effective leadership methods to create a direction and space for the development of literature and art. Party committees, party organizations, cadres, party members, artists and people of all walks of life need to clearly and deeply understand the position, role and mission of literature and art in the new era, especially paying attention to the specificity of literature and art, respecting and ensuring the right to freedom of creation, strongly arousing and developing the desire to contribute and the creative capacity of artists.
Along with that, it is necessary to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management, promote the institutionalization of the Party's policies, viewpoints, tasks and solutions on literature and art, review, build and continue to perfect the missing legal system in the fields of literature and art. Outdated, inadequate and inappropriate regulations, regimes and policies must be resolutely eliminated, creating a favorable corridor and unleashing the source of creative potential development.
We will organize research and promulgate the National Strategy on building literature and art in the new era, the era of national development according to the direction of General Secretary To Lam at the meeting of national artists and writers on December 30, 2024. Regarding this content, the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission also suggested that it is necessary to well implement planning, training, fostering, and arranging a team of leaders, managers, and consultants in the field of literature and art who are qualified, qualified, have qualities, courage, prestige, and professional capacity equal to the task of fundamental and comprehensive innovation of policies on discovery, training, fostering, use, treatment, and honor, and policies on high-quality resources for the field of literature and art.
Second, continue to strongly reform the regime and policies for literary, artistic and artistic activities, and the regime of funding and ordering literary and artistic works, creating all favorable conditions for artists to deeply penetrate the vibrant reality of the country, closely accompanying the creative labor of the people. Promote digital transformation, enhance the application of scientific and technological achievements and focus on building modern technologies in the creation, production, dissemination and preservation of literary and artistic works. Focus on building and developing a synchronous, sustainable and healthy market and literary and artistic products and services so that literature and art can contribute more to the development of the cultural industry. Increase State investment resources, associated with promoting socialization, creating a breakthrough in attracting and allocating resources for the development of literature and art.
Third , strongly promote the development of the field of literary and artistic criticism theory research. Focus on building a scientific, humanistic, and modern system of Vietnamese literary and artistic theory. Combine theory and practice smoothly, persistently implement creative freedom along with freedom of criticism, and at the same time focus on improving the scientific nature, combativeness, and persuasiveness of theoretical and critical work.
Fourth, promote international cooperation and exchange in literature and art, contributing to further promoting the "soft power" of culture. Promote the internal strength of national literature and art as a foundation, have a long-term mindset and vision, enhance proactive coordination among agencies in the political system to develop and implement a strategy to promote Vietnamese literature and art to the world. At the same time, evaluate and effectively select foreign literary and artistic works to bring into our country.
Fifth, effectively implement the Central Government's policy on continuing to reorganize, innovate methods, and improve the quality of operations of central and local literary and artistic organizations, ensuring streamlining, professionalism, and efficient, effective, and efficient operations.
Our country is entering a new era, an era of national growth with intertwined opportunities and challenges. More than ever, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia said that the Vietnamese artists need to continue to stand shoulder to shoulder, join hands and work together to fulfill the noble mission and heavy but glorious responsibility towards the Fatherland and the People. In that context, along with the nation, literature and art must continue to rise with new aspirations, striving to create many works of high value in terms of artistic ideology, worthy of the historical and cultural traditions and the country's foundation and the expectations of our people.

At the Conference, delegates listened to many presentations on the development of the Party's theory on literature and art over the past 50 years; some outstanding marks of 50 years of building and developing literature and art in Ho Chi Minh City; literature and art on the armed forces and revolutionary war contributing to orienting ideology, fostering patriotism, fostering revolutionary qualities and ideals for the young generation; 50 years of Vietnamese literature, achievements and trends; developing the cultural industry in Vietnam from the practical experience of the film industry; perfecting institutions and policies on literature and art after 50 years of national reunification.
The presentations focused on affirming the achievements and results of Vietnamese literature and art 50 years after the country's reunification; proposing and recommending policies and strategies for the development of the country's literature and art in the new period. From there, continue to raise awareness and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, localities and units about the position, role and importance of literature and art; encourage and motivate artists to continue to promote their talents, intelligence, solidarity and unity, enthusiastically create many works of high ideological and artistic value, contribute more to building and developing advanced Vietnamese culture, literature and art, imbued with national identity, contributing worthily to the cause of building and developing the country in the new era.
